"Aimee, stop that!" Adam yelled, laughing as Aimee scrambled to get him in a head lock. Aimee giggled, wrapping her legs around his waist as her arms snaked around his neck. She placed a gentle kiss on his neck, tightening her hold gently.

"Surrender now, Mr. Ringare!" she growled playfully. Adam grinned, putting a tone of mock horror in his voice.

"Oh, no! What can I do? I'll never escape!" He reached behind her, tickling her sides lightly, chuckling as she squirmed, trying to keep her hold on him. "I might as well admit defeat!"

"Adam, no!" Aimee laughed, struggling to block herself without letting go. He grinned, moving one hand to lightly tickle her feet which were locked around his stomach. She screamed and flew off him, giggling. Adam turned around and pounced her, slamming his lips into her passionately. Aimee returned his kiss, arching her body and pushing up against him. He broke the kiss first, nuzzling her neck while she gasped for air.

"I love you, baby." he whispered against her neck. She smiled and closed her eyes.

"I love you, too."

Present

Aimee could feel herself falling against her old memories. They were so in love. What the hell happened? She sat up, pulling her bra to herself, putting it on first. Maybe they had lost their spark? She almost scoffed out loud at that. Spark was the only thing they didn't lose. Every single time they were in the same room together, the sexual tension was so thick you could cut it with a knife. No, spark definitely wasn't it. Fell out of love? She frowned, reaching for her shirt as she considered that one. That one was more possible than the first, but still not likely. Nothing in heaven or on earth could've killed her love for Adam. She needed him, like the earth needed the rain. She had been sure he felt the same...is that why he left? Did he not love her anymore? No, she reasoned with herself, standing and grabbing her jeans, slipping them over her shapely legs. I think the love is still there. This wasn't just a quick fuck. It FELT different. What could it have been? She grabbed her socks and shoes, shaking her head as she sat down on the toilet to put them on. She had no idea what had happened between them, but she knew one thing for sure:

Aimee wanted it back.

After checking herself in the mirror and smoothing her hair back into place, Aimee took a deep breath and walked into the living room. Anne was there standing in the kitchen, helping with the dinner Aimee had left on the stove. Aimee felt her back stiffen, felt herself tremble with pent up frustrations. Anne was her friend, there wasn't any doubt about that. Anne was also Adam's ex, who had been with him before Aimee had even come into the picture. That blurred the lines of territory a bit.

"There you are!" Anne said with a smile. "Dinner's almost ready. We're missing a couple of things, if you wanted to make it a meal..." Adam suddenly walked in through the back door, his hair a mess from the wind. Aimee pretended not to see him.

"Like what?" she asked Anne.

"Corn, butter, salt...and milk, I believe..." Aimee nodded, fumbling for her keys.

"Not a problem. I'll run to the store real quick."

"I'll go with you." Adam cut in smoothy before Anne could respond. Anne balked slightly, but maintained her composure.

"And leave me here all alone?" she teased, tossing a flirtatious smile at Adam. Aimee felt her stomach lurch. Anne wanted Adam back; there was no doubt in her mind about that. She knew it every time Adam walked in the room; Anne's face lit up like a Christmas tree. Aimee knew Adam had moved on from her; so why did the fact that Anne flirted with him hurt her so much? She shook her head, pulling her keys out of the mess on the coffee table and heading for the door in one fluid motion.

"That's ok, I got it." she mumbled hastily before bolting out the door. She ran to her car, tears cutting across her vision, making the sidewalk swim in front of her. This was stupid; why was she acting like this? So what if she still loved him; he made it very clear it was over.

It's over. That's that. Stop your damn crying, she told herself sternly.

But for Aimee it wasn't over. Aimee was still holding onto him. Aimee still missed him, with every breath she took and every thought that she thought. Aimee still loved him. And always would.

She screamed when she felt a strong hand on her shoulder. She was spun quickly around til she wound up face to face with Adam. He lowered his head to stare at her, his eyes borring into hers, his hair falling in front of his face. She resisted all urges to reach up and fix it, like she used to do.

"Why don't you want me to come with you?" he asked softly after several minutes of silence. Aimee shrugged.

"Can't leave Anne up there by herself, can we?" she answered lightly, fighting to keep the tone light despite the stabbing in her chest.

"Fuck Anne." he spit back. "I'm more concerned about you."

"Why? Why be worried about me? It's over, Adam. You said so yourself."

"What if that was a mistake?" Aimee felt her breath hitch. Did he mean it? She couldn't allow herself to believe it.

"You don't make mistakes. You said that yourself, too." she retaliated cooly. Adam actually flinched.

"I was wrong." he whispered softly. Aimee shook her head.

"Adam....." the more she fought against the tears the harder it was to contain them. She felt three strays flee down her cheeks before she took a deep breath and held it, forcing the rest of the flood back inside. Adam frowned.

"You don't have to hide it, Aimes." he said quietly, using the nickname only he was allowed. "It's ok to cry." Aimee smiled wistfully and shook her head.

"No." she sniffed, wiping her nose on the inside of her sleeve before recomposing herself. "It's not." She turned around and opened the door. "If your coming with me, hop in." Adam sighed softly as she got in the car; Aimee pretended not to notice. She started the car and backed out of the space as Adam shut his door behind him.

Aimee drove away, refusing to look at the spiteful glare her best friend wore in her rear view mirror.
