Chapter 16 Recap: After what seemed like eternity to Kawai, Aizawa broke the silence, "There's this café in Akihabara that allows dogs in, you wanna go on Saturday for lunch?"

Kawai who was in shock and didn't know what was happening, but apparently her nerves where making shaking her head in agreement without consulting the brain.

"Great, I'll pick you up at your place at 10:30. I'll take you home, it's getting late."

Chapter 17

Again she was in the same situation, Aizawa and her alone. Sure she had Yuki with her but it was still Aizawa and her. Now at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday morning, Kawai was laying in bed staring at her ceiling, wide awake. There was no alarm clock going off, neither was the sun shining in her eyes, she was simply awake. Was she nervous? Not really. Worried? Not that either. What was this feeling? She wanted it to be 10:20 a.m. so she could be waiting upstairs in her room watching for Aizawa to come.

Kawai finally got out of bed at 8:00am and took a shower. She used her newly bought cherry blossom scented perfume. She loved the smell of cherry blossoms because she was born in April. Each year her family would take her to see the cherry blossoms on her birthday. She quickly prepared herself after she grabbed breakfast. Like many girls she picked out what she was going to wear the night before. After changing she curled her hair and added a touch of makeup.

Kawai was ready by 9:15, looking at herself in the mirror. She was checking if everything was perfect, if the curls in her hair fall perfectly, checking that her makeup wasn't smudged. She looked different from the first time, more relaxed and more confident. She even smiled at the image she saw. There was more than enough time to comb Yuki's fur and get all the knots out.

By 10:15 something hit her, why was she doing this again? Making herself all pretty, this girl in front of the mirror isn't the person she is now, but the person she forgot three years ago. Why was this person showing up again in this kind of situation? She would just end up getting hurt again, by Aizawa. Her memories flooded her mind; the pain came back to her. She looked at herself once more in the mirror, despising the image she saw. Why now? Why were these memories coming back now, out of all times when she started to look forward to something. The first time that she could think of herself as normal again, they came into her mind; Miyoko, Rin, Nanaka and Asuka. Why did she not just go as Aizawa normally sees her, the bullied child who looks only at the ground? Was there a need to be all fancy for him?

'It's not a date,' Kawai thought, 'There's probably more people going, it's not like I want to stand out. There's probably other girls going too and they'll be a lot more confident than me. There is no point to stand out. Besides I'm just a friend, nothing more. He just does these things because he's being friendly with me.'

Kawai picked up her makeup remover and put some on a cotton pad, just as she was about to remove her makeup. Her mother called "Shizuka, there's someone here for you."

Without even thinking about removing her makeup, she instantly grabbed her purse and Yuki's leash, running out of the room with a smile on her face.
