This new found discovery made me even more nervous. I loved Raphael Evans and I had to sleep with him in the same room tonight too. This did not help my already twisting and knotting stomach.
He continued to carry me up the hill, until I saw just over some hedges, a house. It was old, Victorian and screamed, 'VAMPIRES LIVE HERE, WATCH IT'. It was dark, reminded me of the civil war and old creepy women. Raphael's breathing was labored and he was frowning. I felt bad for him having to carry me, but I certainly couldn't have made it up the hill on my own. He caught me looking at him and he gave me a timid smile, which turned into a grimace. Looking away quickly, he picked up his pace.
"Wait here," Adam said to him and walked in front of us.
Leo joined us and put his hand on my leg reassuringly. Raphael glanced at his hand and looked back up to the house. Leo let out a breath and hairs on my neck stood up. Both guys looked alert at the woods around them and out of the dense trees came a man and a woman.
The man had a very narcissistic look on his pale face, his intense eyes looking at us. His upper lip was bulging and I knew that he was a Vampire. His movements were fluid and his eyes went over us at impossible speed. A hissing sound echoed from the woman beside him and Raphael tensed, holding me closer. The woman had bushy black hair and a smooth look on her pale features. She didn't bother hid her fangs, which looked razor sharp.
"You bring in a wounded human," She clicked her tongue disapprovingly and swept over us. "Such sloppy dogs…"
Leo growled and I felt danger. Raphael spoke to him in Italian (since when did he speak it?) and his breathing slowed.
"Alexandra, peace," I looked over and saw Adam and a man, who had a gentle look on his face. "These are our guests." He moved toward us and extended his bony pale hand to me. "Welcome to Gray Stone Miss Williams, you are safe here."
I shook it and I felt the energy I had drain away, in its stead, coldness. When he broke contact, I felt better. Okay, note to self, don't touch them. Raphael looked like he was about to burst out yelling, but only held me closer still. My heart was frantic and trying to get out my chest, but I tried to steady my breathing.
All of them reminded me of everything I loved. The bright color yellow, the smell of cranberries and I could have sworn Michael's face resembled Raphael's in some way. His smell was intoxicating and an ache in my chest formed. I felt a need to touch him again. Raphael clutched me closer and began to follow Michael and his father up to the house.
"Snap out of it, Sara," Raphael hissed in my ear and my once fuzzy vision cleared, "They are sneaky, they take the form or smell like whatever entices you most. Be careful."
"Oh," I blushed and felt ashamed of myself, "S-Sorry."
He gave me a quick nod and a searching look, but he paused once we reached the porch of the house.
The inside of the house took me by surprise. It was very nice and clean. I expected mildew and mold, but I was greeted with cleanliness and music. Someone was playing what sounded like a harp. Sitting on the couch were four people, one of them I had not expected. I nearly yelled out in surprise and she squeaked as she ran up to me.
"Sara! Oh my God," Emily hugged me in Raphael's arms, "I was so scared. They told me everything," She started to cry and Raphael looked down at us nervously and uncomfortably. "I-I don't know what to th-thi-nk." She hiccupped a little and I felt myself coming to tears.
"God," Alexandra came in, rolling her eyes, "Such emotional bitches."
"Alexandra," Michael warned, "That's enough. Go get your brother and sister."
Alexandra let out a sigh and went up the stairs.
Raphael frowned at her and set me on the couch next to Noah, who hugged my middle, while Grace had her arms around him, stroking his hair. Emily sat next to Titus, who she glanced at nervously. He looked crushed.
"Right, well," Michael cleared his throat, though I didn't think he would need to, I guess just for emphasis, "Precautions must be made. Miss Williams and Miss Todd," Emily looked up at him, but with a cautious look, "I'd like to extend my hospitality to you two ladies." He smiled a little, his fangs peaking through his lips. Emily and I shuddered.
"But first things first," Adam announced, speaking before Michael could start again, "Sara, we found your black dog and brought her to the Tavern, we couldn't find the yellow. I'm sorry, we'll keep looking." I sniffed and Emily grabbed my hand and squeezed it. "Your father will be staying with my parents, Matt and brother and sister-in-law. He'll be fine with them. We have reason to believe that Victor is only after you now, so we are taking extra precautions."
Raphael's frown deepened and he put his hand on my shoulder as if daring anyone to come closer. My heart rate sped up.
Everyone froze as we heard footsteps coming down the staircase. Down came Alexandra, a woman and a boy, who looked close to Raphael's age.
"Ah, these are my children," Michael beckoned them forward, "Alexandra; my oldest is twenty-nine."
She scoffed and muttered, "Add a couple hundred years to that." Michael gave her a shut-up-now look and she was silent.
"Belle is the middle child, only twenty-three." Belle had brown curls going down her slim back; her features reminded me of the Beauty and the Beast's Belle from Disney. "And this is Clark, only eighteen."
Alexandra gave out a small laugh with Clark, as if they shared a private joke.
"And here is my brother, John," He pointed to the pale blond man next to the door, whose features resembled Leo's, though his head was high and he gave me a disgusted look.
"Uh, hi," I smiled a little, "Thanks for everything." Alexandra snorted and rolled her eyes, Michael grinned after making sure he glared at his daughter and Belle gave me a timid smile. I tried not to look at Clark. He looked too much like Raphael and I was heeding Raphael's early warning.
"Its no trouble at all, Miss Williams, Victor wouldn't dare come looking for you here."
"J-Just call me Sara," I said quietly and Michael's gentle eyes seemed to change color.
"Wait! So, S-Sara is seriously in trouble?" Emily spoke up, "Why am I here?"
Michael took a seat and his children followed in suit. Adam sat on a small chair and glanced to his wife.
"Yes, we told you the story, as Adam had told me," Michael voiced, a grimace now on his face, "Having Sara's father safe and mother in France, we had to worry about the people closet to her. And you are the closet person who isn't her family; naturally, we have to keep you safe."
"So there are such things as were-werewolves?" She stuttered over her words, "And you are—?"
"Yes, we are." He said gently, glancing at his daughter, who had snarled at Emily.
Emily, Raphael and I were in a guestroom, as sitting quietly on the bed. Emily was hugging me, sniffing slightly. Raphael put his arm around me when Leo and Titus entered the room.
"Hey," Raphael smiled a little when Titus sat on the floor at his feet, his arm in a sling, "You all right, man?"
Titus hesitated and I swore he looked at Emily for a split second; sadness passing across his features, before he smiled too.
"Yeah, I'm fine."
"What happened?" I asked, finally speaking. Titus gave me a small frown and Raphael tightened his grip on me, which I blushed at. Leo smirked knowingly and winked at me.
"I was about to take Emily home," Emily looked up at the sound of her name, "When I caught Victor's scent. I got a call from Adam and I turned around to the Tavern. That's when Leo and Matt found us. I asked them to take Emily while I went to find Noah. They took the truck, I ran. Found Noah in the woods, on his way to the Tavern. Smart kid," He commented and Raphael and I smiled at him, "But Victor caught up with us and managed to break my arm. We managed to get away and I got a call from Adam again, telling me to come here, to Gray Stone. And here we are." He finished, not looking away from Emily.
I gripped Emily's hand and she sniffed again.
"I'm sorry Titus," She spoke up and Titus looked surprised, "If you hadn't been with me, you're arm…" She stopped and tears threatened to fall as they built up.
I felt uncomfortable in the silence. I whispered to Raphael and motioned Leo to leave them alone. I figured they'd want privacy. I leaned on Raphael, muttering something about the bathroom and Leo followed.
In the hall, we met Clark. Raphael tensed again and grabbed my wrist. Leo growled a little, but Clark just smiled.
"Need another room?" I nodded slowly and he smiled. My heart sped up as I imagined Raphael smiling to me.
Clark led us to another guest bedroom, the blinds drawn and the large bed made. I sat on the bed with Raphael, but Leo had disappeared. Clark closed to door after he left, a smirk playing on his lips. I started to sweat nervously.
"Where'd Leo go?" I squeaked out and Raphael looked at the pillows.
"Something about going to call Matt…"
"Right," I fidgeted with the blanket and finally looked at Raphael. He looked at me and I smiled. He mimed me. "Thanks for everything. I don't know what I'd do without you." Where this bold remark came from, I don't know, but my new found confidence kept me going, "Seriously, it means a lot to me."
Raphael replied with silence and a small smile. He also fingered the blanket and broke our eye contact.
"You've done so much for me and my dad, I can't thank you enough." I continued, looking at my thighs, "You're risking your life for me and I don't know how to repay you." I let out a shaky sigh and looked at him again.
I leaned in closer, ignoring my pounding heart or the footsteps coming down the hall. Raphael also leaned in and I nearly closed my eyes, but I kept them focused on his lips. They were a little cracked and dry and I knew I caused that. We were an inch apart when the door burst open. I fell over in surprise, hitting my ankle on Raphael's shin.
"SARA!" Noah yelled, but stopped and paused, "Oh, s-sorry…" He blushed and I winced at my ankle. "I-I uh, fixed your phone." He held out my phone in his hand and scratched the back of his head nervously.
"Really, thanks so much Noah." I said and pulled him into a hug as he came closer. I grabbed it and saw my screen. It was cracked and looked like it had been through hell, but I ignored all its battle-scars. I went straight to my voicemail box and hit OK.
"Um, hi, Sara sweetie, I'm sorry about before. I'm calling because I missed my flight and I feel terrible. I didn't mean to yell at you when you need me. I'm coming back home for you, I'll tell the chef to shove his spatula up his ass if I have to." She laughed and let out a shaky sigh, "I love you and I'm really sorry. Give me a call back soon, sweetie."
I dropped my phone on the ground as the voicemail ended.
"Sara," Raphael said quickly and I knew he had heard it with his amazing hearing, "I-I'll…" He didn't finish his sentence as he jogged through the room, calling for his dad.
Noah hugged my waist and I let him see me cry. I hugged him tightly and didn't even look up when everyone entered the room.
"Let me see," I heard Adam say and then he clicked a button on my phone. Moments of silence passed and a gasp escaped Grace's lips. "All right, we have work to do." Adam said with such authority, I looked up to him and I felt like I needed to salute to him. "Michael, Leo, John, come with me. Raphael stays with Sara, Titus, you with Emily. Stay together."
Adam left the room with Michael, Leo and John, Grace waddling after them. Raphael sat next to me, put his arm around me and his brother and just hugged us.
"We'll find her, Sara," He mumbled in my hair, "We'll find her and your dog. Don't worry."
I let out a strangled gasp and sobbed on the brothers, who kept me in their arms even though I was soaking them with tears.
CrazyLittleMilkShakeMonster- Thank you so much for your reviews! I love long reviews, so no problem there. Thank you for the compliment, I'd like to hope I write well. In America its Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, but in England the Philosopher's Stone. Rambling is good, I say, so thanks. Please review again, it made my day.
Teke- Aw thanks so much. Lets hope her dog is OK, but I can't tell you if he is or isn't yet. Sara is a deep character who is afraid to be real. And Raphael is indeed perfect for her, this chapter proves it. Hopefully the Vampires with prove they are! Thanks for your review!
Cwzvil92- I was hesitant at first when writing about Vampires, I didn't want people to associate this story with Twilight, but I took the risk. Thanks for staying aboard and for your review!
Psychee- Thanks love! It's a trick thing to pull off, but I think I did it well enough. It gets even twistier! WATCH OUT! THANKS AGAIN.
AlexsandraGabriel- I can't tell you how much I appreciate your reviews. I'm glad you like it so far and you've kept reading. I couldn't hurt Noah! He is too cute! Titus is tough though. I can't tell you when they are going to kiss, but if you noticed, they almost did! Yay! Thanks again and review some more!
Whew! Sorry for the wait, I've been busy. It's a little short, but the next will be longer, I promise. Now that the plot thickens, we'll see some more character development. AH I'M SORRY ABOUT THE ALMOST KISS/INTERRUPTING NOAH THING! YOU'LL HAVE TO WAIT A LITTLE LONGER FOR SOME LIP ACTION! I made brownies for everyone! Come review and read it all for one!
