Stuff You Should Know
(Or Prologue, if you want to get technical)
My name is Macy. Macy Kyrie Jacobs. That's Cear -E- A. Yeah I know it's weird. But that's my parents. And I love them. I don't even think they realize how weird my middle name is. They got it from a song by Mister Mister. Apparently it's something in Latin. Something like "God have mercy" or something. My dad said sometimes they say it in church but I've never heard it. So yeah, that's me. Kyrie. Anyway… Well this story isn't going to be one of those stories about some popular girl who complains that her senior boyfriend is graduating and how bummed she is. So if that's the kind of book you're looking for, you can just put this one down right now. Really. I won't be offended.
I guess I have to tell you more about me. Well, I was sixteen when this all started. I live in a small town in Massachusetts. Don't expect me to tell you the name because I really don't want you to come stalk me or anything. No offense. There are creepers out there that might want to, well be creepy. So, for this story, I'm changing the name of my town to Freedom. So, I live in "Freedom" Massachusetts.
I guess you probably want to know what I look like. I have light brown hair. Some of my friends tell me it's blond but I refuse to believe them. So my hair is light brown. My eyes are bluish gray sometimes. And other times they are bluish green. It varies. I'm five feet six and I'm not going to tell you how much I weigh. (It's not that I care whether you think I'm fat or not, it's just not relevant to the story.) I'm not super popular but I have my best friends, who are relevant to the story. They've stuck by me the entire time. Especially Marco and Liz. No matter what, they've been there to help me. Well, mostly. But more of that later. The point is I love my friends.
I never expected something so dramatic to happen to me. I guess I should've known though. I mean, there must've been signs along the way that I missed. But it all seemed to happen at once and then the world was blowing up in my face. Figuratively. But I guess life has a way of working itself out for the better. All you have to do is look around once in a while and you know that it'll be ok. It might be stormy now, but it can't rain forever.
Everyone has a story. Mines just the one that never gets told. Why? Because it's real. It's heartbreakingly, honestly, sometimes cruelly, real. It's gritty, and it's not about a prince coming to sweep the princess off her feet. Because what happens when he's your Prince Charming but you're not his Cinderella? This story isn't perfect, because real people aren't so how can their stories be? This story is about a real girl in search of herself, her dreams, and maybe a prince along the way.
This girl is real, so sometimes, in life, happy endings aren't exactly what you'd think they'd be, so prepare to be surprised. Like I said, this is real, but names and dates have been changed to protect people's privacy. So please don't go looking for Freedom Massachusetts, because it probably doesn't exist. And because this is a story, it has to have a lesson. What, you didn't think I'd give it all away at the beginning, did you?
This story is about heartbreak, depression, sadness, friendship, relationships, love, hate, and life in general. It's about how life can really suck sometimes. It's about how even if it doesn't feel like it sometimes, there is always going to be someone there to catch you when you fall. Or are tripped. It's about me, my best friends, and the guy I should never have fell in love with.
