A child makes a mess. Richard had drawn on his walls with permanent marker and now he sits in a corner for his punishment. He sits on his stool, oblivious to what he did wrong. Then there is a light. Richard is now staring at a handsome young man. A young man, in his twenties, who is at a fancy restaurant. Richard runs somewhere to hide, he runs behind the bush, but the man is still in sight. Richard immediately admires this man, and the man becomes his idol. He stares at this man, for this man looks at his watch every five seconds. Then a pretty young woman walks in, and is greeted by this man. Through the night Richard watches this little date. The couple share laughs, conversations, and by the end of the night the man gets on his knee. Then the couple share tears of happiness.
Then Richard begins to cry. If he hadn't done anything wrong this wouldn't have happened. Because in this world, you can visit your future. At any age, any time, and you don't know where you'll end up, or whether or not you will come back to your past. Richard is one of the unlucky ones, depending on how you see it. He gets to see one of the happiest moments in his life and he gets to skip all the bad parts that got him there. Though, on the other hand, he can't go home. The future that was once his will no longer happen. He is stuck in that future, and as soon as his future self gets on his knees they immediately disappear. Because of this one visit, everything changes. The young woman dies in a car accident on C Street when she was supposed to be with the older Richard at his place for game night. His younger sister gets expelled from school because she didn't have anyone to look up to anymore. She went down the wrong path. You see, in this world, everything changes with one visit to the future.
A rich woman makes dinner for her family. She cooks a beautiful steak while her two kids are watching television, and her husband is on his way back home from work. Her husband gets back, and they all eat a nice dinner. After dinner, the mother cleans up while the dad watches football and the children run around. Then she sees a light. The woman stands on a corner of a street. Having heard stories of these visits to the future, she stays where she is because she knows she will come to her future self. As she stands there she wonders how far into the future this might be. Whether it would be next year, or when she is fifty. After ten minutes she sees a silver Volvo going very fast. It's her car, and this intersection is a school intersection so she shouldn't be going that fast. Then she looks at the woman in the car, its her. She sees herself and they both make eye contact, then out of nowhere comes a huge pickup truck, and then a crash. The pickup truck t-bones her car, and before she is able to comprehend what is going on there is a big explosion. This mother had just seen her death.
There is another flash of light, and she is back to her past, in her house, cleaning up after dinner. She is worried, and does not know when this will happen exactly. So she tells her husband she will take a trip to her parents for the weekend just to make ends meet, since they have had a little falling out. Her husband does not think anything of it and lets her take the Volvo.
While on the road, the woman is anxious and drives very fast without knowing it. She comes by the street she saw herself die on, and she wants to get out of there very quickly, so she speeds up. Then she glances at the intersection where she was standing, and there she is. A single tear falls down her face and she looks to her left to find the pickup truck. Then blackness. Because, you see, other consequences can happen in this world. You could stay in your future, and never experience the events you were supposed to. You can act upon seeing your future, and then get punished for it. But rarely, you can choose to accept it. Whatever you see in your future, whether it's good or bad, you can choose to accept it and not rush things to make that promotion come faster, or to make dying come later. Whatever it is, nothing can change your future, not even you.
