Once upon a time, a man with a mohawk got in a fight (again) with his girlfriend. This man's name was René Aubergine.

René lived in a tiny town with his miniature Brontosaurus, Franchesca. More often than not, René's naggy, snotty girlfriend Élodie lived there as well.

Élodie was never satisfied. Either René's clothes were too ugly or the house was too dirty or René hadn't bought exactly the right variety of organic banana-strawberry juice, not from concentrate (ugh). A large number of Élodie's complaints also had to do with Franchesca. Consequently, Franchesca quite disliked Élodie.

Anyway, René was unhappy, but he couldn't bring himself to leave Élodie. So this one day, when all the laundry came out of the washer stained pink by one very potent red sock, Élodie had had enough.

"What the hell, René, why can't you do anything right?"she shrieked. "Seriously, all I ask is for my clothes to stay white. Is that so hard?"

Franchesca growled, her tail straight out behind her, in very clear response to Élodie's outburst.

"Get away from me, you dumb lizard!" Élodie shouted. And, being the psycho girlfriend that she was, took a WOK and hit René over the head.

René drifted for a very long time, sometimes seeing faces or misty castles or fantastic things he had no name for.

Then he woke up.

There was a beeping noise in his ear, and his cheek felt wet. He couldn't lift his hand to check.

There was also a significant weight on his chest. René opened his eyes blearily and a hospital room swam into view. Franchesca was sitting on his chest, wagging her long tapered tail, smiling a dino grin. She lowered her head and licked René's face.

It turned out that René had been in a coma for six months, due to being hit in the head with a WOK. Franchesca had taken up residence under the heart monitor machine in René's hospital room. She'd built a nest out of old scrubs and stolen gauze bandages (clean, of course).

Élodie had been sent to prison on charges of assault or battery or general batshit insanity or whatever hitting people in the head with a WOK entails. She also had to pay René's hospital bills.

René went home and lived with Franchesca, having realised that sometimes human companionship isn't all it's cracked up to be.
