This is my first story to post on here. I'm excited about it so yeah. Enjoy!

"Good night Mother," my daughter said.

"Good night Sweetie," I said back to her. I leaned down and kissed her forehead. I stepped back and was about to leave when Celeste's voice started talking to me again.

"Mother, when will Papa be back from his trip?"

I walked back over to her and sat at the foot of her bed.

"He'll be home soon. I promise," I answered.

"Will he be home in time for Christmas?"

"I hope so," I smiled. Christmas was coming soon, she always loved Christmas.

I walked out of her room, and went downstairs. I walked into the kitchen and picked up the phone. I dialed Daniel's phone number.

"Hello?" I heard his voice.

"Hello, honey," I greeted.

"Hello, Diane!" He greeted back, "What's up?"

"Celeste wants to know when you'll be getting home,"

"I'm going to be leaving tomorrow, so I'll be home in a few days."

"Thank you, Celeste will be thrilled,"

"Is that all?"

"No, I love you, bye,"

"I love you too, see you soon,"

I hung up, a smile touched my lips. He was finally coming home. I checked the clock, which said 8:13. I ran upstairs to Celeste's room and knocked on her door.

"Come in!" I heard her voice say. I opened the door.

"Sweetie, get dressed, I've got something special planned. She leaped up, and landed on the floor. Her dark brown hair hit her face and she started giggling. She started tugging at her closet door. I walked in and opened it for her.

"Which dress do you want to wear?" I asked.

"That one!" She pointed at a maroon dress with butterflies on it. I pulled out the long sleeved dress, and helped her into it. She picked up her black sandals and handed them to me. I put them on.

"OK, go get your coat on while I go get ready OK?"

"Uh-huh!" She smiled and ran downstairs.

I went to my room, and pulled out a white, long-sleeved shirt, and some jeans. I pulled them on, and got a pair pf socks. I pulled them on my feet, and picked up my black boots. I pulled them on. I walked downstairs and saw Celeste struggling to get her coat of it's hanger. I took it off for her and handed her the purple coat. I helped her pull it on. I picked up my black fuzz lined coat, and got out gloves from the glove drawer. I handed her the purple fuzzy ones. I pulled on the the white fuzzy gloves.

"You ready?" I asked her.

"Uh-huh!" She answered gleefully.

I grabbed my tan purse, and walked out the front door with her. The snow was about an inch high. We walked towards our snow-covered mini-van. I opened the green door, and helped her into her into her seat. I buckled her in and closed the door. I opened my door and got into the car. I started it and backed out of the driveway. I started to drive towards the nearby town.

"Where are we going?" Celeste asked me.

"It's a surprise," I answered her.

"OK, but can I have a hint?"

"I know you'll like it,"

"That's not a hint,"

"I want it to be a surprise,"

"OK!"

We drove in silence for a few minutes when I pulled into a parking lot. I helped Celeste out of her seat and took her hand.

"We're going to have to walk the rest of the way," I told her.

She nodded and started to skip next to me. I smiled. We walked a few blocks before we reached the building I wanted to go to.

"Is this where we're going?" She asked excitedly.

I nodded, and walked in. The bell tinkled stating our presence. The person at the counter saw us and came out from behind it.

"It's been a long time Diane! Hello Celeste!" She said.

"Hello Wilma, it has been a long time, but school and work has kept us busy,"

"Uh-huh!" Celeste nodded, she went over to Wilma and hugged the plump, black haired woman.

"How have you been with the shop?" I asked.

"It's been great dear, come in and have a seat,"

We followed Wilma to our favorite booth.

"Alright, so do you two want the usual?"

"Is that OK with you Celeste?"

"I want extra marshmallows please!"

"I'll take the usual, and you know what Celeste wants," I laughed.

We heard the bell's tinkling again.

"I'll get you two set up in a moment," She told us, and she went over to the people who just entered, "Hello Thomas! Hello Susan! How are you today?"

She seemed to know everyone in this small town. I watched Celeste pick up a napkin.

"Momma, may I have a marker?" She asked.

"Sure," I dug through my purse and found a purple marker. I handed it to her.

"Than you Momma!" I watched her start scribbling on the napkin.

Wilma came back with two mugs.

"Here you go, enjoy!" She put the mug with a spoon in it in front of Celeste, and the other one in front of me.

"Thank you Wilma, if we need anything else we'll let you know,"

Celeste started stirring her hot chocolate. I took a sip of the coffee.

"She sure does know how to make good coffee. How's your hot chocolate?" I commented.

Celeste put the spoon in her mouth, "Mmm, it's good!"

"Daddy's coming home in a few days!" I told her.

"Yay!" She smiled and started to clap her hands.

I smiled.

I am enjoying writing this story. I hope your enjoying reading it! Sorry if Diane doesn't act all motherly and stuff, because I'm writing how I would think a mother would act. I'm not a mother so it's a little hard. XD Hope you enjoyed!
