A small talk with God

Alone on the beach.
No one to share this perfect day with-
too busy.
My interests-
too plain.

i lay down in the grass under a tree
watch a family swimming,
laughing together.

Plugged into music i'm content to close my eyes.
The sun and wind make auras,
the scent of foam and sand from childhood,
a little sad not to be able to give
my sisters this,
my children this,
my husband this, my friends.

The best parts of my past and now merging,
a little sad.

Until I open my eyes to see a red monarch
wafting overhead like a tiny kite-
it's very breezy--

but the living flower flies out towards the waves,
not one bit afraid.

Exactly what I needed to see.
