"Mom, I'm gay."

I watch her face, twist into confusion, then into realization, and then she smiled her happy homemaker smile. I hesitated, wondering what would happen, I hadn't the slightest clue how she would react. This was the first time the subject had ever been approached, or at least in my knowledge. But she smiled; I smiled weakly in return, watching as she leaned forward from her seat with a tight face.

"Are you sure sweetie?"
