Chapter 5 – A new life, History and Dragons.

It was midday.

Caley had just had with Shyla, what she thought was the longest conversation of her life! She had agreed to join the dragonarmy, to fight for good. In the evening she would undergo an initiation ceremony, in the great hall. She had not been in it yet and had no idea what made it so 'great' – but would soon find out. The ceremony consisted of being welcomed by the council and saying an oath while placing her hand over the Palinderyle (prophecy egg). If this egg glowed, it would prove that she was the famed and long awaited dragonmaster and the egg would hatch into her very own dragon. Afterwards, Caley would train hard, learn magic, fighting everything, and when she was ready, finally face Delano and the enemy. A new life.

She still couldn't believe it. Things were going way too fast. She felt like only yesterday she was sneaking around Kalitrin, scoffing cakes from the bakery! how much time had passed? Caley didn't know. Time seemed to slow down in Fyein.

Caley was excited. To have her very own dragon; her best friend a lifelong companion. A bond that could not be broken with a thousand swords! She had always been alone. Never letting anyone in and liking it that way. That would change drastically. Caley was excited, yes. But not as much as she was frightened. A heavy weight was suddenly thrust down on her shoulders. So much depended on her, one mistake and KABOOM! Kantralia would fall to pieces and burn to ash. Also she was so inexperienced in this world. Last week, Caley didn't believe dragons and magic-users existed and today she is among them.

Magic. What an anomaly! What a great remarkable thing to get your head around! Shyla had explained to Caley all about magic. She remembered the conversation...

"Caley. For you to understand, I should explain everything about dragons and magic right from the beginning." Shyla started "Magic comes from the elements. From the ground we walk on, the air we breathe, the water we drink, the fire that keeps us warm... and so on. The first ever dragons were born from the elements, bursting from the world one night. No one knows how or why, but we know this- the first dragons were the greatest, the most powerful and beautiful of them all. This was the Birth of dragons. They roamed the earth for eons, and made friendships with the other good races- dwarves, elves, imps, Ud ogres and man. Over time these friendships became connections and every dragon that was born, would make a powerful bond with an individual and be more powerful than one alone. Dragon and dragonmaster. There was once a time, when dragons and dragonmasters watched over the world, creating harmony through all the land. This was The Golden Era.

But one powerful terrible shadow-elf (an elf that had turned evil) grew jealous and rallied the evil dragons. They destroyed the good dragons." Shyla grew disheartened by the history after she said that, but somehow, Caley had known this shadow-elf was Delano.

"I want to know about the dragons, about their powers. Why are there so many different colours?" Caley asked.

"Each race of dragon has a different colours and each colour has a different power. Black dragons control darkness and they are the only evil dragons. The rest are good- White control light, Blue control water, Green control earth, Red control fire, Yellow control air, Purple have healing powers, Pink have immense strength, Orange control lightening and Gold.. Gold dragons have astounding speed."

Caley thought for a moment. "There are so many different races of good dragons, why were they defeated in the battle of old?"

Shyla looked surprised. "You know of the battle of old? I thought it was forbidden in Delano's realm."

"It is, well, I just know stories actually, songs."

"Ah. I see. There are far more races of good dragons, than evil, but in the battle of old, the black dragon's numbers were vast and enormous. Yes- they only had one power-but a power so terrible and strong, that they wiped out almost all the good dragons. Although, did the good dragons leave without a fight? No! They killed almost all of the evil dragons and those that remained were scattered and they died.

And so the age of the dragons was annihilated." Shyla grew saddened. Caley tried to change the subject.

"Why haven't I seen any Gold dragons around camp? I've seen all the other colours, but no Gold." She had been pondering this for a while.

"All the dragons except the gold were extremely common in The Golden Era. There have been no gold dragons since the Birth. None. The first and only Gold dragon was the Supreme Dragon, the Mighty One, the best, the most powerful, the most beautiful and the fastest flyer ever, since the world began. All of his children, however, always took their mother's race, always being great. But never as great as their father. There has been only one golden egg in the history of the world and it is un- hatched. This egg is over 30 thousand eons old. This egg is the palinderyle and lies in the great hall of the rebellion dragonarmy camp, ever under constant guard, ever waiting; waiting for the Palinder to rescue it from its long lasting sleep."
