世界大戦第三

World War III

Prologue

December 23rd was the day World War III struck. I still remember distinctly sitting in class reading my novel for English. North Korea had attacked South Korea earlier during November. I was shocked when I heard the news that evening. Some of the images shown on T.V were morally revolting to look at. North Korea wanted Japan and China to join them, so that they could take over South Korea, and finally the world. Japan and China instantly refused, leaving North Korea furious. North Korea had bombed Beijing, China and Tokyo, Japan, the two Capitals in the countries. Many people were killed, and that eventually led to World War III. They needed soldiers to fight in the war, male and female. It wasn't like the previous World Wars where only men could fight. Japan, China, South Korea, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Canada, England, Netherlands, Spain, Russia and Germany all helped us. Yes, even Germany. We knew that the last World War was caused by Adolf Hitler and the Germans, but this time, they were helping us fight for freedom and justice. U.S.A, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Vietnam, Mongolia, and pretty much everyone else helped North Korea. But, the one question that was making everyone nervous was, "Are you ready to fight?"…

"Hikari Nakamura! Pay attention when I'm talking to you!" Sensei yelled from the front of the class.

It was another boring day in school. I was dozing off as usual, and Sensei seemed to be tired of telling me the same thing, over and over again. I was stuck in my own little world and thinking serious thoughts of what I wanted to do with my future. My parents always told me to strive to become like my brother, who went off to Harvard University to become a Neural Surgeon. I was sick of always being told what to do. My goal in life was to get it over with, and fast. My parents always pressured me when it came to academics. I wasn't the brightest in the class, like my brother and my parents. They were used to receiving 99 averages, and when they saw my 67 in math, they were shocked. Life has been such a rocky path for me lately. I'd have the same routine every single day. Wake up, shower, school, work, dinner, bed. Nothing interesting ever happened to me. Many girls at the school hated me because of my boyish attitude and the way I dressed. Instead of wearing a skirt with my uniform, I wore pants. You wouldn't believe how many parents and teachers complained to the Principal about my dressing habits. It wasn't like I was breaking the law or anything. People just though I was weird. Since everybody here followed the status quo, they couldn't stand seeing someone being a little different. My best friend, Takeshi Yamada always told me to ignore everyone and live my life the way I wanted it to be.

After school, I went straight to work at the café. Many customers were crowding around the T.V and I wondered what was going on. I made my way to the front of the T.V and heard the broadcaster explaining that North Korean had attacked South Korea. The man also said that this might be the start of World War III. Many people were shocked to hear that. If there was another World War, it would be bad news. Takeshi had just arrived and asked me what was going on. I told him that North Korea was attacking South Korea and that it might lead to a World War. He looked at me and laughed.

"World War III? That's sick!" Takeshi yelled.

"What's wrong with you? World War III would be terrible! If there was a war, we would have to fight in it!" I yelled back.

"Come on, you seriously think there is going to be another world war? That news reporter is insane." He joked.

"That's not funny, our lives could be at risk! You want to see your friends die alongside you?" I over exaggerated.

"Hikari, calm down. It's going to be alright. Nothing's going to happen. Trust me." Takeshi said to me with a serious look on his face.

"Alright… But I'm really worried." I said exasperated.

"Hey, what you should be worrying about is your grades! Leave this world war stuff to the media. Let's get back to work, come on Hikari." He said.

"Fine." I replied dully.

When I got home, my parents were watching T.V in the living room. They were eating their dinner in front of the T.V screen, something they told me never to do.

"Hey! I'm home!" I yelled.

"Honey, put your bag upstairs in your room and then come down. The maid just scrubbed the floors and cleaned out the closet." Dad replied.

"Alright." I said with a sigh.

When your parents are rich and you have a huge house, life's not all that great. My parents have money, but they handle it like scrooge. After I dumped my bag onto my floor, I went down stairs to talk to my parents. Their eyes were glued onto the T.V, and paid no attention to me when I entered the room.

"Oh my god." I said as I covered my mouth. The T.V displayed images that were utterly revolting to look at. Images of blood, hurt people, ambulances a police flooded my thoughts. I ran straight up to my room, and dialled Takeshi's number.

"Hello, Yamada residence?" A voice said.

"May I speak to Takeshi?" I asked.

"Speaking." He responded.

"Oh my god, there's more news of the attack in South Korea! Seriously, it's freaking me out..." I said.

"Hikari, as i said earlier, it's going to be alright. You just calm down, okay?" He replied in a soothing voice.

"Takeshi, i can't calm down if World War III hits!" I yelled.

"Hikari, just... calm it, and..." He began.

"You don't sound convincing! You don't even sound like you believe yourself." I argued.

"Just, I'll talk to you later. I have a lot of homework right now. See you tomorrow at school." He said.

"Takeshi wait-" I began. He already hung up. If this continues, World War III might actually hit...

"Hikari, a letter came in for you." Mother said with a quiet voice.

"Is it from the Government?" I asked.

"Yes, it's regarding the War..." Mother said as tears welled up in her eyes.

To be continued...

Hey guys! Please don't be offended by my imagination. World War III is a hard topic to write about, so please don't be offended if your country of origin is used in here as the antagonist.
