On a ship, in the sea,
The sailors spent each day,
From their families, from their homes,
The sailors rowed, rowed away.
On a rock, in the sea,
A beautiful maiden spent each day,
With long hair, and a fish's tail,
Waiting for sailors to come that way.
As they sailed near her rock,
The unlucky sailors crossed her path,
Taken in by her beauty,
Enchanted by her musical laugh.
In a desperate bid to join her,
The sailors jumped from the boat,
The would have swum towards her,
But they did not float,
In fact, each sailor sank,
Resting on the ocean bed,
As, to that same fate,
Many other sailors were led
