The Ear of the World

A seashell is the ear of the world.

Just like an eavesdropping spy,

It hears everything near and far.

Voices making dinner plans,

Or the president making decisions,

Or even a conversation between a child and a parent.

The ear of the world.

This can be a special, living connection to a deceased loved one.

I whisper something into the shell, then hold it to my ear.

I can hear their gentle voice again,

And I feel like they're here with me again.

Like I am the angel with them in Heaven.

The ear of the world.

You hear the depths of the ocean,

The squeaking of playful dolphins,

The moans of huge whales,

The clownfish passing through anemones,

The great shark's mighty roar,

The swish of a fish,

The cawing of a seagull.

You hear the beach in your own backyard.

You hear everything to the corners of the universe,

To the great Heavens above,

To the great, blue, salty, majestic sea,

To anything we can imagine.

You are the ear of the world.
