Annabelle walked down the dark, cold but noisy streets of New York. Through the howling of the wind she heard cats fighting in the alley way, people screaming in a nearby apartment block and the sound of a jukebox playing at the pub a few blocks behind her. She pushed back her wavy, blonde locks out of her blue eyes and caught a look at the small delicate watch on her wrist.
You're probably wondering why a nice young girl like Annabelle was walking down dangerous streets in the middle of the night? Well Anna's job was writing for the New York Times newspaper and sometimes her job required her to stay behind late. Tonight was one of those nights and it was just her luck that there were no Taxi's around at this time at night. A noise brought her out of her thoughts as she rounded an alley. Footsteps. The hair on the back of her neck stood on end as she heard the footsteps approaching from behind her. She turned around t see two men, but different in sizes, but each wore the same toothy grin. Annabelle quickened her pace as the men started shouting after her.
"Hey pretty lady!"
"Why don't you join us?" Anna wanted to tell them how disgusting they were but she pushed the comment back down her throat. This was not the time to let her anger get a hold of her like it usually does. So instead she started to walk even faster.
"Ah come on! Don't be like that."
"We just want to show you how be-ua-ti-ful you are." Anna turned out of the alley and saw a set of stairs leading up to an apartment. She quickly hid beneath them as she heard the two men approaching. 30 seconds later the two men rounded the corner and stopped when they couldn't see her.
"Where'd she go?" one of them asked.
"Bitch gave us the slip." the other one growled.
"But, I want a girl tonight." the first one wined.
"We'll go find another one. I have a thirst for blood tonight."
Hearing this made Anna's blood run cold. If she didn't stop them they were just going to find some other poor innocent girl like herself was going to be murdered. She looked frantically around in search of something that could me used as some sort of weapon. Something shined in the moonlight. Aha! Just her luck, it was an old rusty butter knife. It won't do much, but maybe it will disable them for enough time to call the police. She drew in a long deep breath and plastered a seductive look on her face.
Let's hope this works.
Then, drawing all the courage she could manage, she stepped out behind them.
"Hello boys." She purred. The two men spun around and grinned at her.
"Ello gorgeous. We thought you gave us the slip. Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Adam," the smaller guy said giving a bow.
"And I'm Jack," the burly one said gruffly.
"Well I'm Victoria," she lies smoothly.
"A sexy name for a very sexy woman." Adam winked. Anna gracefully strutted over to Adam, getting up real close to him.
Ewww, she thought. He smelt like alcohol and cigarettes. Gross.
"What is it exactly that your looking for?" she asked, reaching up and lightly wrapping her hand around the top of his arm. Adam gulped.
Ha! Not so confident are you?
"Well a pretty lady such as yourself actually. We got lucky tonight." he grinned, breathing in her face. Anna fought the urge to gag.
"Oh," is all she muttered before plunging the rusty knife into Adam's abdomen. Adam howled with pain and fell to the ground, gasping.
"Hey!" Jack yelled coming towards. Anna turned to run away but Jack caught her and lifted her up. She screamed as the burly man threw her into the side of the building. Her confidence went out with her breath as it came rushing out of her.
"You hurt Adam!" Jack growled, "Now Jack hurt you." Anna quickly got to her feet and dodged the flying garbage bin that came flying towards her.
"Help!" she screeched, knowing if she didn't she would surely be killed. She turned around to see Jack advancing on her again.
Oh god please don't let it happen like this.
Jack reached out and wrapped his hands around her neck. Just has he started to apply pressure to Anna's throat, a light flickered on beside her.
"Please don't do this," she whispered to Jack, who had not noticed the light yet.
"You hurt, Adam."He growled again. And then there was a flash of brown and Jack fell to the ground, Anna was about to follow him but she felt two arms wrap around her waist at the last minute. A wooden plank fell to the ground beside Jack.
"Miss, are you okay?" the person behind her asked. She turned around to find a man that looked a year or two older than her. His bronze coloured hair messed up from sleep and his blue eyes shinned with worry.
"Y-yes, I'm fine. Thank you very much." she stuttered once she saw that the man was shirtless, she was glad that it was pretty dark as she felt her cheeks begin to heat up.
"That's good. I'm Liam." he replied holding out his hand. Anna grasped his outstretched hand and shook it.
"Annabelle," Liam gave her a smile that made her weak at the knees.
"I would say it was very nice to meet you, but I would of preferred meeting you in a more pleasant situation." Anna laughed at his attempt of humour.
"I'll tell you what. How about you come inside and have a nice, hot cup of coffee while I call the police before you continue your journey home?" he asked.
"That would be very nice, thank you." she answered gratefully, smiling at Liam.
"Oh it quite alright, the pleasure is all mine," he smirked.
A news report popped up on the screen in front of him.
"Miss Annabelle Parker was finally found this morning after being missing for nearly three weeks." the reporter stated, " Her body was horribly mangled and there were signs of rape and torture. The police would like anyone who had any information on this malicious murder, please contact Crime Stoppers." A photo of the girl came on the screen just as a smile came to Liam's face. He turned the TV off and his smile grew even wider as he heard the screams of his next victim.
"Ah, music too my ears." he whispered.
