You can practise as much as you want, my dear,
but as pretty as the sound might get, it still
won't mean anything. You live in fear
of breaking a string or scratching the woodwork,
but it barely bothers you at all if you kill
the spirit inside. As long as it's shiny
and smart and professional, and not whiney
or wavering, it'll be okay. Because even if
the heart of the violin is in tatters,
it's okay - only the violinist matters.
