A poem is more personal than a diary.

A diary is a list of events, with the odd thought
thrown in – but a poem is pure emotion;
a drop of blood spilt by one who sought
a quick escape from the day-to-day commotion
that one might record in a diary.

A poem, however, captures a rare snatch of calm -
a fragment of a heart or soul that should only be seen
by strangers. For a friend to see a poem would harm
its beauty and steal its magic. It would no longer be
complete serenity, but tainted by the chaos
it was created to avoid.

In only half a moment,
the calm would be destroyed.
