You shiver and I pretend not to notice,
and silently slip off my jacket for you
just so we can silently suffer together.

I can't help but notice how you clutch
my hand so hard, and wonder what
it is that has got you so afraid.

(and if you're afraid to let go, or
afraid to hold on any longer)

These are the questions I do not ask
but instead, decide that it's worth it
to keep holding on to you.

As you quietly stare out into the vast
nothingness, coated in blue, I think
wordlessly and only to myself …

I want to be the ocean to you.
