You'd think that each step would lead
me closer to some kind of goal,
and that as I got closer, I would need
this old walking stick less and less.

But that's not the case – my whole
body gets weaker with every breath I take.
My lungs get more exhausted and start to ache
and burn. I collapse on the path and close
my eyes. This isn't getting me anywhere.

So -
why do I keep trying?
