I closed my eyes and leaned on the wall. We've been waiting for our plane for almost an hour. We were supposed to leave an hour ago but they said that they needed to fix some things and well here we are, waiting.
"Scarlett!" Courtney hissed.
"What?" I complained.
"Come here," she said.
"No." I hear her groan and approach me. She grabbed my face with her hands and I opened my eyes.
"Stop being such a baby," she said and dragged me to the window. I looked down, cars were rushing in and out trying to catch their flights but something else was going on. There was a bunch of people by the entrance, most of them holding cameras and microphones. Their cameras flashing away.
"Is that the-"
"The paparazzi," she breathed out. She smiled at me, her eyes sparkling. "And I think I know why they're here."
And as if right on cue, Ethan came running towards me. "Scarlett!"
"Oh dear God," I groaned. He looked like he was mobbed cause his hair was all over the place but he still looked gorgeous. Before I could get away though, he grabbed both of my arms making me stay in place. I felt like a dog in a freaking cage.
"Listen to me, I've only got a few minutes before they realize that I sneaked past them," he panted.
"Why are you panting?" I laughed.
"Oh my God! Its Ethan Douglas!" a girl screamed. Then suddenly, everything was in commotion. Girls were screaming and were trying to get a hold of Ethan and now, the paparazzi were in our floor and they looked like angry village folks back in the old days.
"Shit, shit, shit!" he whispered. "Marco!"
"Who the hell is-" I was cut off cause suddenly a huge man was hugging the both of us and man he was HUGE. I was practically in midair cause he was so tall and burly. "Courtney!" I screamed. I know he was probably some bodyguard of Ethan but I was still scared for my life.
"I'm here," she said. And she sounded so calm and to make it worse, she was smiling at me. I know that smile. It was the smile that I meant she knew something I didn't.
"Why are you so calm?" I snapped. "And why are you smiling at me like that?"
"Why wouldn't I be?" she asked and smiled even wider. I swear that smile looked creeeepy. Suddenly, it was quiet. I looked around and we were in a room. With couches and tables, it didn't look an office to me. Marco both put us down and sat on one of the couches.
"Thanks," I said to him. He just nodded in reply. I turned to Ethan who was still panting. Goodness you'd think that all those action movies he trained for didn't do justice to him. "What do you want?"
He ignored me though and turned to Marco. "They won't ambush me here, right?"
Marco just shook his head. Does he talk? "Good," Ethan said and looked at me a smile slowly creeping up on his face. I crossed my arms.
"Why are you here?" I asked.
"Isn't it obvious?" Courtney said. I turned around, she was leaning on the closed door. "He wants to talk to you."
"Who are you?" Ethan said trying to sound calm but I know he was scared that Courtney might attack him. Which can happen.
I smiled. "Chill, she's Courtney. My oh, so annoying best friend."
She slapped my arm. "Ow!"
She pointed at me. "You deserved it." She held her hand out to Ethan. "Its nice to meet you, she talked nonstop about you yesterday."
Ethan took her hand and gave me a knowing smile. My eyes widened. "I did not! You were the one who was squealing like a little girl in a candy store!"
She shrugged. She seemed so eerily calm about this. She's been talking about Ethan for all her life and she's not even undressing him with her eyes. "Nice to meet you too," he said.
"Can you just tell me why you're here cause I bet my mom's freaking out where I am now," I said. My phone started to ring. I brought it out knowing who it was but Courtney snatched it from me. I stared at her ready to ask it back but she beat me to it.
She pointed at Ethan and me. "Talk and I'll answer your mom," she said and flipped my phone open. I could hear my mom on the other line screaming where the hell was I. Courtney just sighed and let her rant. She looked at me a gestured to Ethan. I glared at her but followed her anyways.
"Okay, look, I know you won't give our friendship a chance bu-"
"A friendship that's nonexistent," I pointed out.
He threw me a look. "But what could go wrong with us being friends?"
"Why do you want to be friends with me, anyways? I bet you've come across a lot of girls. So, why me? Why not them?" I threw his a question that was on my mind the first second I saw him here.
"Because they were all fans! If I wanted to be friends with them then they'd take advantage of me," he said with a pleading look in his eyes.
I narrowed my eyes at him because suddenly a thought came up. "Are you trying to make me like you so I can buy your franchise?"
"What?" he breathed out. "I'm not that low, Scarlett!"
I held my hands. "Okay, okay, just a thought."
He ran a hand through his hair. "Look here," he said and handed me a piece of paper. "Its my number when you got it, burn it. Don't rip it to pieces, burn it."
I looked at it, it had no name just his number. "I-"
"Tell them to wait for us!" Courtney screamed. We all looked at her and gave us an apologetic look. "Sorry to ruin whatever you guys got there but, our plane's ready and if we're not there in 5 minutes, they'll leave us."
My eyes widened and gave Ethan the paper while running to the door. "Sorry but I can't take it." He looked at me his face unreadable.
"Hold up," Marco said and stood up. There comes that scared feeling again. "I'll bring you there. Stay here boss," he said to Ethan. Courtney suddenly hugged Ethan with all she's got which made Ethan take two steps back. I smiled, there's the Courtney I knew.
"Oh my God! I can't believe I finally met you! I've had the biggest crush on since your first movie and you're finally here! Right in front of my eyes! I'm your biggest fan! I just can't believe it!" she rambled. I pulled her away from him cause he looked like a deer caught in headlights.
I chuckled. "Let's go Courtney."
Ethan hugged her back though which made me and Courtney gasp. When he pulled away he held both of her hands. "It was really nice meeting you," he said and hugged her back, his face nuzzling her neck. I couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy. First of all, he never hugged me and second of all, he was nuzzling her neck! He was the one who liked me! Me! Why was he-
I slapped my face mentally. Okaaaaay. That was weird and it was totally not a big deal. He let go of her and I grabbed her arm quickly I didn't want to be left behind. Marco hugged us both and ran to our gate. The paparazzi were still there, when they saw us cameras started flashing, and reporters started asking us questions about Ethan. I was going blind! All I could see was those white lights.
"Do you know Ethan Douglas?"
"Where is he?"
"How did you meet him?"
"Are you two dating?"
I wanted to cover my ears but Marco's arm was preventing me from doing so. He dropped us by the gate and Courtney and I started to make a dash for it. "Thank you!" I shouted so he could hear me.
"Have a safe flight!" He answered back. When we reached the plane's doors, the flight attendant was closing it.
"Wait!" Courtney and I screamed. She looked up and put a fake smile on her face but it was clear that she was pissed. She opened the door for us and practically shoved us in the plane.
"About time," she sneered. I could feel Courtney starting to answer back but I pulled her away from her so all she could do was giving her a glare. When we found our seat, some stranger was sleeping beside Mom who was giving me a knowing smile. I had a feeling that Courtney told her everything.
"You told her didn't you?" I asked while I was putting on my seatbelt.
She smiled. "I have no idea what you're talking about."
I shook my head. "I'm gonna kill you, you know?"
She scoffed. "She knew you met him so why not just tell her the whole story?"
I gave her a look but I knew she was right anyways. I closed my eyes, suddenly feeling tired because of all the Ethan drama. All I wanted was to go home and pretend that none of this ever happened. I was just some other 'fan' in Ethan's life. I sighed and finally felt sleep engulf me.
"You okay?" Courtney asked me. I've been staring into space lately. AND IT'S NOT BECAUSE OF ETHAN! Oh, who am I kidding? Yes, it's because of him. It's just so surreal, you know? Of all the people I could bump into, I bumped into an actor. Not just any actor, but Ethan Douglas! He's like the teenager's Brad Pitt. We love Brad Pitt too! Its just that you know, he's just too old for us. But I would take him any day. (Insert evil laugh here) Why not Brad Pitt? It would've been less complicated and hell it'd be even better. What's worse is that I regret not accepting the paper. Stupid of me, right? To be moping over some piece of paper. Ugh, what the hell is wrong with me? I hate him for making me act this way.
Courtney snapped two times before I got her attention. "Scarlett!"
I lazily looked up at her. "What?"
"You're supposed to be looking for your bag," she said with a slight amusing tone. She thought that this was amusing. Yeah it is, for her, because here I am not being able to concentrate on anything because that mother-freaking Ethan was on my mind. Where I was supposed to put all of my concentration on my bag, which is not so hard to find cause its neon pink, which is by the way already on the belt, shining like a beacon. Before you look at me in a weird way, its not my bag its Courtney's. I just borrowed it from her because my mom was practically putting her closet in her bag, which of course, did not fit so she had to use mine. I pulled it from the conveyer belt, slightly embarrassed from the people shooting me looks. Mom put it on the pushcart where we could put all our bags on.
"Okay, that's the last of it," she said. "Let's go home."
"Finally," I sighed.
Courtney laughed. "You know, depressed Scarlett is fun to watch," she said and put her arm around my shoulder.
"I'm not depressed!" I said and shrugged her arm off. When we were finally out of the airport, I saw my older brother. His hair color was almost light brown but it was still red, his was just less tame than mine was. He's tall, like really, really tall, I literally have to look up just to talk to him. He's old though, he's working already that's why he didn't get to go with cause he can't take a leave, he was doing something important this month.
"Michael!" I exclaimed, just wanting to go home already. He looked up and smiled when he saw us. I was gonna run cause I missed him so much but I didn't get to reach him because a girl suddenly screamed and pointed at me.
"There she is!" she said and suddenly a wave of cameras and people surrounded me asking the same questions the people did on LAX.
"Is it true that Ethan Douglas kissed you when you left from Los Angeles?"
"How do you feel knowing that Ethan Douglas has taken a liking to you?
"How the hell did you meet him?"
"Are you using him to be famous?"
I just couldn't take it anymore. I could barely hear my own thoughts and I instinctively I screamed my brother's name. "Michael!" Which was a pretty bad idea cause the paparazzi caused an uproar.
"Michael? Who's Michael?"
"Is he your boyfriend?"
"No!" I screamed cause that was seriously a disgusting question. That was a bad idea though cause they were closing in on me, giving me no space to breathe at all.
"Who is he?"
"Are cheating on Ethan Douglas?"
"BACK OFF!" someone screamed which sounded like it coming from a megaphone. Whoever that person was I was gonna kiss them. I swear, that's how thankful I was because for a split second they dispersed and I made a run for it. I reached our car and slammed the door shut when I was inside. Everyone was there except for Michael who was now opening the driver's door. When he was inside, I screamed for him to push the gas and to get me away from here.
"What. The. Hell. Happened. In. There?" He asked between pants. I was gonna tell him everything when suddenly my head started to hurt. It was like I was shot in the head it was that fast.
"Tell him Courtney, my head hurts," I said and started massaging my head. Courtney told him everything, from the day we met until what happened in the airport. Next thing I knew we were entering our village, that was how long Courtney could tell a story and my head still hurts, by the way. It was like elephants were dancing inside my head. I was glad to see my house again but the only I didn't like were the black vans parked by our street a mass of people sitting there. I groaned.
"How on earth did they find out where I lived?" I said to myself. I could feel the car slowing down and when they saw the car, they started standing up. "Go past the house! They'll think it's us!" Michael did as I said and made a right turn so they can't see us and stopped. He turned around and looked at me.
"The reason why the paparazzi are by our house is because this Ethan Douglas guy likes you and they're guessing that you're together?"
"Uh," I said because I seriously don't know the answer to that. "Yes?"
He pursed his lips and turned around. "Michael, I just wanna go home. I didn't ask for any of this. I told him to leave me alone but he didn't."
"I know, I got that, Courtney told me everything, remember?"
"Then why does it look like you're mad at me?"
"I'm not mad at you, Scar. I'm mad at that stupid moron and I'm just guessing on how we could safely go inside our house without them mobbing my little sister."
I sighed and leaned my head against the headrest. This situation isn't helping for my headache. "Oh I know!" Mom piped up for the first time. "How about we park our car in Ms. Eleanor's garage then we could just go to our house through the door on the fence? They wouldn't see us cause the trees are blocking the door. Then maybe when they're gone we could park the car in our garage?"
"That's a great idea!" Courtney said. Ms. Eleanor was our neighbor and we live beside each other, she's a kind, old woman who've lost her family but we treat her like she's one of us. There's a fence separating our houses and on the fence was this some kind of door so we could go to each other houses with no difficulty. We built it ourselves.
"I'll just call her first," Mom said and brought out her phone. After a few rings, Ms. Eleanor answered. "Hi Rose! How are you? Yeah, we're back home... That's great to hear! So, I was just wondering if you could help us? Thank you! Uh, could we park our car in your garage for a while? Cause there's these people in front of our house and- great! Thank you so much, Rose!" she said and hang up. "Let's go!"
Michael backed out from the street. When we got to Ms. Eleanor's house, she was there watering the plants. The paparazzi were looking here oblivious that we were inside the car. Ms. Eleanor smiled and opened her garage door at us. When we were safely parked in the garage, I jumped off the car and hugged Ms. Eleanor.
"Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!" I said in a rush.
"Oh, honey that was no big deal," she said and stroked my hair. "Now, you owe me some explanation."
I let her go and sighed. "Fine, after we all go inside my house." We all decided to leave the luggage behind and just bring with us our backpacks and whatnot. We all went to the fence and Michael slowly opened the latch. He looked around for a second and motioned for us to go. I looked at my side and the paparazzi were still there. Goodness, when will they leave? I ran to our backdoor and unlocked it. I waited for them before I went inside. Michael needed to assist Mr. Eleanor but she kept on refusing, Michael still insisted. Ms. Eleanor was old but she was strong, she didn't need a walker or anything but we were still worried that she might collapse any minute, I mean she was 89 years old. When they were near, we all went inside. Ms. Eleanor sat on our dining table and I sat right across her. Courtney went straight to the TV and Michael went up to his room.
"Do you want anything, Rose?" Mom asked when she was opening up our cabinets. Probably checking if Michael didn't finish all the food we had.
"Maybe some coffee, dear," Ms. Eleanor said and then turned to me. The only thing she did was smile and there was a glint in her green eyes and I forced myself to not roll my eyes. I sighed.
"I know, I know. I've got some explaining to do," I said.
"Here you go," Mom said and gave Ms. Eleanor her coffee. She sat beside her and the two of them took a sip from their mug at the same time and looked at me, with the same glint of humor in their eyes. That was creepy. I swear I felt electricity run through me.
"Mom," I whined, "Why are you here?"
"Because I want to know what's happening in my daughter's life."
"But you already heard all of it from Courtney," I said.
"Yes I did but, I want to hear it from you," she said and smiled at me. I glared at her but I still told them my story. I told them everything, the only thing Courtney didn't tell them was, what Ethan said to me cause all Courtney said was what happened, no details. After I was done I leaned on my chair and looked at them. They were smiling that smile again. Ms. Eleanor took another sip from her mug before she returned her attention to me.
"So this boy likes you?" Ms. Eleanor asked.
"I don't know," I said. "He only said that he wanted to be friends with me."
"Then why didn't you want to be friends with him?" Mom asked.
"Because he's Ethan Douglas!" I said as if that's supposed to explain everything.
"So what if he's famous? I would be lucky to have a famous guy as a friend."
"That's not the point, Mom," I said, frustrated that they don't get me.
"Then what is it, dear?" Ms. Eleanor asked.
"What if I get too attached with him? And heaven knows that he's so busy that he can't have the time to spend time with me. I don't want to get hurt."
"Oh, honey it's-"
"SCARLETT!" Courtney screamed. And what does a surprised girl do? She shrieks and jumps on her seat, which is what I did, and it made me fall back on my chair. I landed with a loud thud on the floor. I groaned and rolled on my side. My back was on fire, it hurts so much. I looked to my side and the chair wasn't broken but I was pretty sure my back was.
"Courtney," I growled. "I swear, I'm gonna kill you!"
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm so sorry," she said beside me. Mom and Courtney were beside me and Ms. Eleanor was peering over me. They both helped me to my feet and when I didn't stumble anymore they let me go.
"What?" I snapped at Courtney.
"You have to watch this," she said and dragged me toward the living room. She pointed to the couch. "Sit."
Somehow, it pissed me off. Maybe because she made me fall out off my chair and now she's ordering me like a dog. "Hey! I am not a-"
"Sit down!" she hollered. I grumbled some curse words and sat down. She turned the TV on and sat beside me.
"What is this abou-"
"-Ethan Douglas everybody!" My head turned to the TV and Ethan was there, dancing his way towards Ellen DeGeneres. When he reached his seat, he started doing these crazy dance moves and a smile slowly crept on my face. They both hugged and he sat down. The girls on the show started squealing and Courtney started squealing too. I laughed and shook my head. Girls. Ethan smiled and waved to the audience, which only made the squealing louder. Ellen laughed.
"Oh goodness, these girls act like you're some kind of god," Ellen said.
He shrugged. "Yeah well, I'm gorgeous. I can't blame them," he smiled. I snorted, he was so full of himself but of course, the girls just screamed even louder. Well, he is gorgeous even if he was just wearing a plain white v-neck and a pair of faded blue jeans.
"Oh," Ellen sighed. "I'll just ignore them. So, Ethan let's talk about this new movie of yours. What's it called again?"
"I Need to Go Cause If Not, They Might Kill Me," he chuckled. My eyes widened that's what he said his movie was when we met. I can't believe he still remembered that. Courtney looked at me.
"I know," I whispered.
"I'm just kidding its called, uh, 'I Second Emotion' and it's a Rom-Com."
"And this is your first Rom-Com movie?"
"Yes," he smiled. "It is."
"Who's in this movie?"
"Halley Martinez, Justin Hoffman, Blake Smith and loads of other people."
"Did all you guys get along?" Ellen asked and she shifted in her seat.
"Oh yeah," he nodded. "We just all clicked, ever since the first day of shooting. Me, Halley and Justin became best friends on the first week. I mean, the cast were just a family not only the cast but the crew too. We were so lucky to have them as our crew cause they were just so nice and supportive, and it made the cast work even harder to make them proud, you know?"
"Mhmm, yeah. Now, what's the story? And the title just seems so, wrong," Ellen laughed.
"Yeah, it was supposed to sound wrong so that people would be interested, in a way," he chuckled. "It's the typical story, boy meets girl, they fall in love the only thing about it is that it funny, I guess."
Ellen laughed. "Well, I'll watch it. I heard that you have another movie?"
"Yeah, the first day will start tomorrow. We don't have a title yet but I heard it'll be fun. Its Romance and I'm with Halley again."
"So, she's your leading lady?" Ellen said.
"How about in real life?"
"No!" Ethan chuckled. "We're just friends."
"Well, Ethan there's a rumor going around about a girl," she said and suddenly a picture of the both of us appeared on the screen. And this picture was him kissing my hand, talk about the luckiest girl on earth.
"Shit!" I screamed. Ethan's eyes widened.
"Where'd you get that?"
"So, you do know this girl?"
"Uh, yeah," Ethan said but he was nervous. You could see it in his eyes. "She's just a fan."
"And yet you're kissing her hand?"
"She asked for it," Ethan shrugged, I guess he was trying to protect me. Well, too late the paparazzi were all over me now.
"Then why did you go to the airport and risk being late for my show?"
Ethan was silent for a moment. "Uh, she uh," he stuttered. "She left something and I was just gonna return it."
Ellen looked at him for a second and he just smiled. "Fine, go ahead and lie but I'm sure America will find out who she is."
"I'm not lying!" Ethan countered.
Ellen just smiled. "We'll be right back!" Ellen's logo showed up and it went on commercial. I didn't realize that I was blushing until Courtney told me.
"Oh my God, you're blushing!" she squealed.
"No I'm not!" I said. I was patting my cheeks so that it'll go away but its not. How can he make me blush when the people that I liked before can't? God, what's up me?
"You really like him, don't you?" she asked with a mischievous smile on her face.
I stood up, getting fed up with her false accusations. "I don't like him! He pisses me off!"
She stood up too and crossed her arms. "Well, maybe you could explain to me why you're blushing?"
"I am not blushing!" I said through gritted teeth.
"Sure," he chuckled. "You just might want to call him."
"No I don't."
"Well if you change your mind, Scar," she said and handed me a piece of paper. I took it from her and looked at it. It was what Ethan gave me from the airport.
"How? How did you-"
She smiled. "He gave it to me," she said and started to leave the room. "You know, Scar, he really likes you. Even if you don't like him, give him a chance, you don't know where it'll lead you. It could be great or bad but try to look at the bright side, please? He really wants to be friends with you."
She left me standing there with a piece of paper and suddenly I felt like I was making the biggest decision of my life, and I probably was. I sighed and closed my eyes. Why does it have to be me? I looked at the piece of paper again and I knew what I wanted.
