The sound of one thousand plastic

beads falling onto Tupperware containers

means rain. A cool strand of wind

comes in through the opened kitchen window.

A loose leaf of paper on the counter

is spattered by water and the smell

of damp honeysuckle makes the humidity

bearable. Dark blue clouds in the sky

tower and curl and look like

ocean waves. The waves collapse and

thunder crashes. Lightning

zig zags

and touches the ground,

thin and bright, like a dewy

spider's web in the morning.
