Chapter 8: Maybe…
~This is from Tray's point of view~
I'm sitting on the tall hill. Thomas used to bring me here when I was young. He used to tell me that this is the place to go when I was sad. He told me this place makes you feel better. Lies. I don't feel better. I'm still upset. About everything. I've been up here for hours. The sun is setting now. Luca loved sunsets. She loved me. I heard a noise behind me. I quickly turned around. No one's there. I turned back around slowly. It was probably a squirrel or a bird. I wonder if Luca will ever come back. I took her letter out of my pocket. I read it again. She never actually explained why she left. She just said that she had to. Maybe… I heard another noise. I turned around quickly. Still nobody. I heard a stick crack and a whisper. Are there people in the woods at the top of the hill? I stood and walked towards the woods. "Is anyone there?" I called. Sudden silence. I heard more whispers. I barely heard a sentence. All I heard was, "No, no, no, it's way too dangerous…" it sounded like a man's voice. I then saw a tall guy step out of the woods. He looked young, maybe a few years older than me. I took a step back because he had surprised me. "Who are you?" I asked. He shrugged. "Why would you like to know?" he asked. I shrugged. I was quiet for a minute. And then I heard a soft crying noise. "Do you have somebody with you?" I asked. "What if I do?" The guy asked. I saw some movement in the bushes. The guy turned. "Please stay there for a moment longer." He whispered to the person in the bushes. I heard a quiet voice whisper something back. The guy looked very surprised. He turned back to me. "Uh, are you by any chance Tray?" he asked. "Y-yes. How do you know my…" I cut off when I saw the person who walked from the bushes.
Luca walked towards me slowly. I couldn't speak. I couldn't move. Luca had tears in her eyes. "Tray? I'm sorry. I'm sorry." She whispered. I still couldn't move. "L-Luca?" My voice was but a whisper. Luca walked towards me more. She was almost in front of me. The guy was watching us intently. Luca stood right in front of me. She looked up at me with her big eyes. "Tray." She whispered. I pulled her to me and hugged her close. Luca is in my arms once again. Thank you god, thank you so much. I heard her soft sobs as she clung to me. Luca is here. This doesn't feel real. Please don't let this be a dream. I just want to hold Luca in my arms forever and never let her go.
Luca explained everything to me that night. I hope we never have to be separated again. Because I love her. I want to be with her for the rest of my life.
Luca is still worried that the man will try to come and get her, I keep reassuring her that he will not. Everyone at school was surprised to see Luca back. We had a lot of explaining to do. I did most of the explaining. Luca hasn't left my side since we've been back. She is startled so easily now. She's not the same Luca. But I will still love her no matter what happens. I promise that. Luca told her sister about Michael. They had a small reunion. And now, as I sit here with Luca asleep in my arms, I think of how perfect everything is. How everything has worked out. How lucky I am. I pushed some of Luca's hair from her face. I laid my head down and closed my eyes. I should get some sleep. I felt something fall in front of my face. I opened my eyes and saw a letter. There is no one in this room except for me and Luca. I opened the letter softly, trying not to wake Luca.
Don't think it's over. It's only just begun. I know where you are. I know where to find you. I know how to kill you. Trust me. It is nowhere near over.
