Do you really love Tasha?

His eyes opened. He missed her; he missed Sarah.

Kyle turned to the girl sitting beside him. They rarely talked or even looked at each other. Sarah was a very close friend. They were close to becoming best friends. Kyle met Sarah on the first day of middle school. Both got lost looking for the principal, who wanted to greet all of the students attending Abraham Lincoln Middle School. From that day forth, they became friends. By the time they entered high school, Sarah and Kyle came to each other seeking dating advice. By the second trimester, Sarah got her first boyfriend, Mike. Sophomore year, Kyle got his first crush, Tasha.

Tasha was their friend since she transferred during the last trimester of freshman year. She was a very sweet girl. Sarah always called her cute and adorable. By the time Mike and Sarah decided to break it off, Sarah wanted to get Tasha and Kyle together. Her entire junior year was devoted to getting Tasha to be infatuated with Kyle. Tasha began growing onto Kyle, but Tasha had always liked Mike. When Kyle and Sarah decided to visit a college campus together, Sarah realized she had always had feelings for Kyle. She always denied it in front of others since she thought her feelings were that of a best friend. Sarah actually wanted to be his girlfriend.

"Hey Sarah, can you pick up my pencil? It rolled under your foot." He smiled to her.

The girl looked down at the writing utensil and kicked it to the desk in front of her. Kyle thought Sarah would have been nice enough to pick it up, but she was still mad, extremely mad.

Maybe he also liked her too. He did, but chose to ignore it as well. In the summer before high school, it finally hit him that Sarah was a girl. She was a great girl. They had a lot in common, but more importantly she was the only one who could listen to him about his relationship with his mother. Sarah always listened and helped him to look on both sides of the situation. She always helped him understand. But, Tasha did too. Tasha helped him confront his mother and helped him cope when Sarah was not there. Tasha was prettier and girlier. Tasha was a princess who he wanted to protect.

"…..I really don't understand. You look at me like that, like I'm the only one for you. You always come to my rescue when I'm feeling down or when that idiot Mike broke my heart. You comforted me. Kyle, I think I love you. I hate it because Tasha's always on your mind, and she's starting to like you back. It only hurts more because you think she's the one. You only love her as a sister….."

Thoughts had been rolling in his head ever since that day. Sarah was always the one who told me how to feel. She was right most of the time, but was she right that time?

"…..I thought I loved you as my brother, but.. But… when you were about to kiss me on that campus tour, I wasn't grossed out. I wanted it to happen. I really wanted you to kiss me. It was like I was waiting for it to happen. You've always held my hand; you would flirt with me; you would tell me my perfume smelled pretty….."

The bell rang. He watched her leave like he did that night. After she said all of that, Kyle asked her, "Do you want me to ask you out?" She turned and slowly walked to her car by the park. It didn't matter to him. He just wanted Sarah to stop crying that night. The question, however, made Sarah angry. Sarah wanted Kyle to ask her out because he wanted to.

Kyle came home to find Sarah's family in the house. It was the monthly dinner, which was established by their mothers during the seventh grade. He smiled to them, but was sad to see that Sarah could not come. She had to prepare for a college interview for the next day. He sighed and headed upstairs telling them and his family that he had to study for a test.

Instead of studying his textbook, he studied his pictures of Sarah. Kyle flipped through photographs from middle school and notes she told him to keep. He wondered if she kept his notes he told her to keep. Kyle read the email with her plan of setting up Tasha and him together. Kyle even stared at her online profile.

"I miss you Sarah," he whispered.

She basically rejected, but he rejected her in the first place. He couldn't accept that. He missed her. He missed talking to her. He missed their stupid arguments, especially about the best soda. He missed her annoying him. He missed annoying her. He missed being teased by him. He missed teasing her. He missed the smell of her hair. He missed touching her hand. He missed the feel of her lips each time she fell asleep during their study breaks for finals. He loved her.

Somehow, he had a weird tendency to call her.

"Hi…" Her voice was nice to hear.

"Sarah."

She hung up.

He called again and decided to leave a message

"Dear Sarah, I'm sorry. I guess I should have asked you to be my girlfriend in a different way. I did like Tasha, but I guess- actually, I always liked you. Thanks for opening my eyes. Love you. It's Kyle by the way."

Before midnight, she came. Kyle smiled before he asked Sarah to be his girlfriend in the right way. She said yes.

A/N: This isn't the best of one shots I've done. But, hopefully you thought it was cute enough.
