Temporary Goodbyes

I was sitting on the couch of my living room, watching tv, expecting no one to arrive when I heard a soft knock come from my door. I was shocked to see her standing there. Sadness was written all over her face. My heart clenched at the sight of her. She looked up at me with eyes full of unshed tears. She then uttered the four words a guy never wants to hear from a girl.

"We need to talk" she said in a strained voice. I only nodded. I didn't trust my voice right now. I let her come inside and closed the door. When I turned around, she was sitting on the couch, looking pained.

I sat beside her. I cradled her face with my right hand. I forced her to look at me.

"What's wrong?" I asked in a whisper

She broke down crying and said the most painful words I've ever heard.

"I'm leaving you"

My heart broke into millions of pieces. Tears began escaping my eyes. I know I looked pathetic, but I didn't care. The love of my life was leaving me.

"Why? Why are you leaving me? What did I do?" I asked in a broken voice

"You did nothing wrong. I'm, I'm moving away. My family is moving away to London because my father got a new job. I'll never be coming back."

Those words completely broke me. She was leaving me. She was never coming back.

"I'm sorry. I have to go" she muttered

She stood up and began heading for the door. I stood up to, grabbed her arm and hugged her close to me.

"Please, don't do this. Don't leave me, please. I beg you. Don't leave me. I love you." I said. My tears were uncontrollably falling from my eyes.

She hugged me back tightly and whispered

"I love you too, so much. But I have to. We won't be able to survive this distance. Please, let me go. You'll be better off without me in your life"

"How could you think that?" I said looking her in the eyes. They were full of sadness and pain.

"You're my life. You're the only reason why I'm living. If you walk away from me, I would die. I'd rather die than live a life without you."

She sobbed even more from my words. I hugged her again more tightly. I didn't want her to go. I never want to live without her in my arms.

I tilted her chin and kissed her softly but full of passion. She had to know how much I loved her. She just had to know I can't live without her.

She pulled back and brought her lips to my ear and whispered

"Please, don't forget about me. I love you. You'll be the only man I've ever loved. My heart belongs to you. Please, take care of it. I love you. I'm sorry. Goodbye"

But before she could get out of my grasp, I whispered to her

"I'll never forget you. You'll always be my love. My heart, no, my whole being will only belong to you. This isn't goodbye. I promise. I'll make a way to spend forever with you. I promise."

She gave me one last kiss and walked away.

I broke down crying to the floor. I promised her this isn't goodbye, and I'll keep that promise. I was never going to live without her. She was my everything. And I'll make sure to see her again.

I'll make sure of it.
