Harbor

The waves thunder like my heart;
it beats only for you, darling.
You are in the arms of another
and I am left to wonder:

Why are you the one
to open the barricades
that I build years ago?
Was my darkness not enough?

Did you crave the light
of what I once possessed decades ago?
If only I had a purer heart.
I slice through the water
and the cold cuts off circulation.

(Will I be able to swim out there
without your guardian eyes?)
