I was just walking down the hallway of my mansion when I heard my mom crying in the kitchen. "Mom, what's wrong?" I asked concerned.

"Oh, dear! I just don't know what to tell you! We're going to lose so much!" Mom replied. Clearly worry was overtaking her.

"What do you mean, Mom? I thought that you just got a promotion at work."

"I know, honey. But, the company I worked at just shut down, and you know that new credit card that we applied for? Well, I never recieved it in the mail, and now I've got so many bills that I've got to pay for it because someone has stolen it."

"But, what about Dad? He has a job, doesn't he?" I admit, I was starting to panic.

"Honey, I need to talk to you about that. Your dad, he's left us. And he's taken your brother with him." I couldn't believe it. He was gone. My brother was gone. The credit card has been stolen from our mail box and now the person who stole it was spending money at OUR expense!

"No! You can't be telling the truth! You just can't be! I won't believe it! Why would Dad leave us! He loved us so much! And Jake, my only brother in the whole universe! Why would this happen to us?" I exclaimed.

"Kayla, you must calm down."

"No! I won't calm down! I won't!" I yelled at my mother. I ran upstairs, tears flowing like a river down my face. For the first time in my life, I was afraid. Afraid of what would come next. Afraid of what my life was going to be like. Afraid that I would lose my house. My home. We hadn't even finished paying it off! And, for the first time in my life, I felt alone. Stranded from any civilization. And stranded from my family.
