Author's Note: This poem is inspired by the song "If I Die Young" by the Band Perry and the old saying "Home is where the heart is." (Hence the title.)

Home is Where the Heart Is:

They say home is where the heart is,

It could be in the faithful mountains,

Or the roaring engine of a plane as it soars above the clouds,

Or the rocking boat as it's pummeled by waves,

Home is where the heart is.

Home is where the heart is,

And I know where my heart lies,

With the ocean so wild and free,

Swimming with the sharks in the deep, deep blue,

Gliding with the whales in the great blue sea,

Jumping with the dolphins above the breeze.

My heart will always lie,

Where the shore meets the sea,

Where the smell of salt hangs like a silent sheet,

Where the waves break and sweep the sandy shores,

Where the fish feed and the seagulls soar,

Home is where the heart is,

And my heart will always be,

Swimming in the great blue sea.

So if I die before it's my time,

Spread my ashes over the sea,

So I can always walk along the shore,

Soar with the birds,

Swim with the sharks,

Glide with the whales,

And jump with the dolphins.

They say home is where the heart is,

And if I die young,

Set a young heart free,

Send a young heart home,

To the place it always wished it be.
