It was a heavy downpour
where no more than a
quarter of a mile
could be seen.
The sky,
black with night,
was surrounded by an aurora
of despair and sadness.
Cold and drenched,
I saw the blood red lights
fading in and out,
on and off,
on and off.
Bells ringing,
yet their noise
didn't pierce my ears.
All I saw were the raindrops
and those red flashing orbs.
There was no stopping,
there was just me
in the rain and darkness.
I was forever frozen
in what happened to be,
the most peaceful night
in the emptiest places
of my heart.

Little did I realize,
nor care about,
the whistle
that sounded in the far distance.
