The First Block

this hallow image of a man,
a shade,
he loomed over my past like a shadow
that grotesques my shape
into a beast with two heads.

step away. step away.

the sudden chill at my skin
as prickling a drop
as ice lakes giving way
into heavy shrouds.

he'd bury me if he could-
fool me into thinking
he's as strong as the storms
that will blot out light.

this trick of his, stepping in between me and the sun
has thinned with time.

outline of a man
i will not color in.

i will not give him life
by imagining he is more than he is

or that I am without choices.
