Chapter 1

"Even Little Miss Perfect Can Hurt"

"What Highschool are you going to, again?"

"I'm taking the entrance exam for Strathcona. If I don't pass, I have Archbishop McDonald as a backup."

"No worries, dude. You're the smartest chick I know, you're gonna make it."

"Thanks, man." Juliette said with a sigh, the two girls bid goodbye and she ended the call.

As she made her way down the street, Juliette read through her classmates' exchanged goodbyes on Facebook. As she scrolled her way down the page, her eyes rested on a certain somebody's picture.

A certain somebody she'd had a crush on for seven years.

A certain somebody who she hadn't seen or talked to in three years.

A certain somebody she just couldn't get over.

Roman Peerce.

Sneaking a paranoid glance around her as she wore an uninterested expression, she tapped on his profile picture.

Upon viewing his page, Juliette registered two things. One, he looked amazing in that yellow t-shirt of his. Two, one of his friends had posted on his page in capital letter the words:

'LAGUNA FTW!'

He couldn't possibly mean Laguna Composite High School, could he?

The very school her parents had scoffed at, and turned down? Juliette cursed at the cruelty of it all.

There'd been a possibility of them attending the same school once again, there was a chance that she would get to meet him once again; but it'd been taken away from her. Just like that.

As the frustration sunk in, Juliette registered she'd arrived home. Slipping open the lock with her key, she stepped into the silent building, carelessly throwing her shoes and book-bag to the side as she made her way into the living room, plopping onto the couch.

"It's so unfair…" she said, her voice cracking. The tears began to prick at her eyes, and she swiped at them with the back of her hand.

That was her chance. Her final chance to meet him once again, because after high school, even her hopes of one day seeing him on the streets or in a store would no longer stand a chance, because they wouldn't be in the same town. They couldn't be. She would try as hard as possible to apply to a university in another country, so that her dream of travelling would come one step closer; and so that she could finally be free.

Taking a deep breath, she sat up from her seat. Her sister would be home soon, she couldn't be seen in her current condition. Easing into the couch and embracing a pillow, Juliette turned on the TV.

"…School project! It was a school project!" The boy on TV with a girl's voice yelled out.

"So you dressed up as a guy to school for a month because of an assignment?" A handsome boy asked, incredulous.

"No, no!" Suddenly, the smaller boy pulled off his hair, shaking out his, or her, blonde hair, "It was-ugh." She huffed, frustrated.

Suddenly another girl appeared, helping the blonde out as she explained the rest of it to the boy.

The front door burst open, and Juliette quickly fixed herself, throwing the cushion away as she stared uninterestedly at the TV screen.

"Hey" Rosalina greeted as she stepped in, Juliette turned to her "where were you?"

"With Santana."

"You know you're not supposed to go out when Mom and Dad aren't home" Juliette frowned.

"What they don't know won't kill them." Rosalina muttered, walking away.

"Get back here-" Juliette abruptly stood, following tow.

"Look" Rosalina abruptly turned around "I'm not you. I can't obey every single command, and I can't rise up to every expectation. Just leave me alone."

Juliette furrowed her eyebrows, "excuse me? Do you really think giving me garbage is gonna help get me to keep this from them?"

Rosalina rolled her eyes, "not like you would anyways."

Juliette glared at her sister, "got that right."

Rosalina huffed a whatever, rushing past her hazel-eyed sister as she climbed up the stairs and into her room.

Juliette frowned, letting out a sigh. She stepped back into the living room, plopping down onto the couch from before.

"What is wrong with her" she muttered, running a hand through her hair. She then realized that the TV was still open, but she ignored it, slipping into her thoughts.

The two of them were once so close, almost inseparable as children. What had happened?

Juliette's eyes flitted toward the clock, rising from her seat as she did so. Switching off the TV, she stepped into the kitchen to make lunch for their parents' arrival.
