To say that Katie felt nervous was a serious understatement. Today was the day that Derek was supposedly giving her the kissing test. The final bell signaling the end of the school day had rung and Jessie had texted her saying that Derek was now headed over to her locker.

Would she do alright? She could really be Derek's girlfriend in a few minutes if she did well. She was excited, scared and confused all at the same time.

But what about Scott, a voice in her head asked. She shoved that voice aside, or at least attempted to do so. This was what she had wanted all along. She was not going to waste her opportunity on a guy that probably wasn't even into her anyway.

She looked into her locker. Ok, did she use her breath mints? Yep, she did. Anything else she needed to remember? She thought back to her lessons, ignoring how good kissing Scott had come to feel. What did he say to do again? Wait, he encouraged her to not think about it, to 'go with how she felt'. So she shouldn't think about how to turn her head, or when to close her eyes or…crap now she was thinking about it. And now she was nervous.

Ok, nerves would not help her now. Calm down lady! You can do this! She took a couple deep breaths. After all of her lessons, this was going to be no sweat. She could do this! She would ace this thing and become Derek's girlfriend.

"Katie," said a voice from behind her. Katie gushed; her name sounded so good when Derek said it.

She turned to him. "Hey."

"Okay," he began, rubbing the back of his head, "I would explain how this works, but I was told your friend Jessie told you about it before right?"

The redhead nodded. "Yep." Did that sound too enthusiastic?

"So," he asked. "Do you want to date me?"

She smiled. "I'd like to."

"Alright," Derek replied. "Would you like to do this here or go somewhere more private?"

Hmm, good question. She hadn't thought of that. Her eyes moved around. There weren't that many people left in the hallway, but most of them were already staring. She'd rather not do it where everyone was watching. "Umm, somewhere more private," she chose.

He gave her a smile. "Sure."

Katie shut her locker and then they walked together out of the hallway. Thankfully, no one seemed to follow them.

He led her to one of the hallways on the far side of the school where there weren't any lockers. "This ok?" he asked her.

She smiled and nodded. He stepped directly in front of her. "Ready?" he asked. Once again, she nodded.

They stepped closer and he moved in. She tilted her head. This was it. She shut her eyes and waited to feel him kiss her.

She did feel lips on hers, but they felt rather…familiar. They tasted familiar too. She opened her eyes…only to see Scott.

…Holy crap she was kissing Scott right now!

She tore her lips away and squeaked. What? How? When? This didn't make any sense. How did this happen? She looked up from him and saw Derek with a confused expression behind Scott. Scott must have snuck in while she had her eyes closed.

This didn't make any sense. "What are you doing?" she asked Scott.

He responded by kissing her again. When he broke away he said, "Katie, go out with me."

"Huh?" she was even more confused now.

He sighed as he lifted up his cap and ran a hand through his hair. His cheeks were pink. "I suck at this," he mumbled before looking back up at her. "Okay, I know we went through all of this so that you could date Derek. And I know that you were just about to date the dude, but please hear me out.

"I've liked you for a while now. I don't really know when it started, but I do. And I know that I'm not Derek or whatever, but I heard you saying before that you think you like me too. So I thought that maybe we could, you know, go out."

"…But I thought you didn't date," Katie pointed out slowly.

"I know, but I really like you and I thought we could, uh, try it out," he explained. "So what do you say?"

Scott liked her, and he wanted to go out with her. What the heck? Also, why did he have to have such crappy timing? Well, did she want to date him? True, for the past few weeks she had been trying to force notions about liking him, and wanting to be him, out of her mind. But what about Derek? Wasn't he her 'golden boy'? The guy she had always wanted to be with?

Gosh, she had never pictured herself ever having to face a situation like this. Did she want to be with Scott now that she knew he was interested? What would that be like? Well, it would probably be like it had been when we had those lessons. Was I okay with that? Was being with him worth giving up on Derek?

After another moment of thought, I smiled. Yes, I was. Instead of voicing my opinion, I leaned in and brushed my lips against his. It was quite nice, if I do say so myself.

He lit up. "Sweet!"

"Umm, I'm just going to go now," Derek said as he walked off. Neither Scott nor Katie looked at him as he left.

Katie laughed a little, "So I guess I got those lessons for nothing then."

"Nah," he assured her. "I like being able to mac out with my girlfriend without worrying about breaking my head."

Katie pouted, but couldn't really argue with his point. Scott laughed before connecting their mouths once more. She didn't pout after that.

Hey everyone. That's the end of the story. Is it obvious that conclusions are not my strong point? Anyways, I hope you all enjoyed it :) thanks for the support, it is much appreciated.
