A/N: Sunnah - the actions of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Muslims follow and perform these as a sign of respect and reverence

The morning of Eid, at last has arrived
The day's activities carefully contrived
It marks the end of Ramadan, the month of fasting
For the sake of the one God, the ever-lasting

There's lots to do in the morning, before
My extended family begin arriving at the door
Tidying the rooms, hoovering the carpets
Preparing delectable food for the culinary banquet

I take a shower as is Sunnah to do
And dress in my colourful clothes, bought new
We travel to the mosque for the Eid prayer
To praise God for the blessings that with us He shared

Giving to the poor is also compulsory
To remember and provide for those less fortunate than we
Clothes swathed with colour dash the decorated hall
As we stand before God in congregation, humble and equal

With a spritely "Eid Mubarak", we greet one another
And talk and laugh with fellow sisters and brothers
On arriving back home, we dance with delight
The atmosphere alive with happiness, upbeat and bright

Cars build up on the pavement outside, swiftly
Including my uncle's BMW and my granddad's Mitsubishi
My crazy cousins and my accommodating aunts
Soon occupy our house amid celebratory chants

We swoop down on our feast, eager and hungry
Talking, laughing and praising God wholeheartedly
The little kids scamper and play merrily about the house
Some as loud as a lion, others as quiet as a mouse

The adults then delve into their pockets, bags and drawer
Exchanging with others, money, presents and gifts galore!
Later in the day, we visit other relatives and friends
And sour relations we try our best to amend

Finally, when the shadowy blanket of night descends
The requisite to clean up and tidy denotes the end
Until the next Ramadan and until the next Eid arrives
We maintain our good manners and practices that, in the month of blessings, we fortified
