Burnt out

The dark starry sky
broke in pieces today.
Sun didn't quite shine
the way it usually does.
The birds were quiet
while they normally roamed and chirped.

The colors of the buildings
were of shades of gray.
Water no longer ran
but rather still as the howling wind.

My hands, dirty.
My eyes, dry.
My skin, pale.
My heart, split.
My hope, crushed.

The rain felt hot
as burning wood.
Meanwhile, the clouds laughed,
rolling and deep.

Far off, a star died
and the galaxy paused.
From where I stood,
life was drained and gone.
