Leaning back in his chair, Michael carefully read the report Nakir had handed him a few minutes ago. Pursing his lips, he looked up at angel of justice with a solemn look.
"So, Miki died huh?" He said finally with a sigh, running his long fingers through his short blonde hair. Even though he didn't have a corporal body, he could just feel the headache coming on.
"Along with the fallen angel Sheli and the demon Vetis, yes," Nakir replied curtly. "All three of them are currently in the roster to be reborn. Due to Sheli's latest rampant demon killing spree, Munkir and I have our hands full trying to place all of them. At the very earliest, they can be reborn in twenty years. At the very least with Sheli's death we no longer have to worry about the overabundance of demon souls. The human soul quota is large enough to fill without the extra work that woman gave us."
"I see," Michael said, his lips twitching a bit. Nakir and Sheli never did get along. It got worse after she fell; Nakir never did appreciate the extra work Sheli gave them when she went wild on her demon purges. He complained to Michael so many times to stop that woman. Michael told him it was out of his jurisdiction and there was nothing he could do about it.
He supposed he could have killed her, but really she was helping them out. Demons were given a pretty lax reign on Earth until Armageddon, and if a rouge fallen angel wanted to deplete their numbers who was he complain. He didn't care for fallen angels, but he despised demons.
Quite frankly he was surprised Semiazas let Sheli live after her first rampage. But he seemed to agree with Lucifer that if the demons wanted her stopped, they would have to do it themselves. He seemed to hate weaklings more than those who disobeyed direct orders.
Well Vetis certainly stopped her. The demon was as they speak probably being hailed as a hero; a martyr for demons everywhere. If Sheli hadn't fallen, he mused, she could have been a martyr as well.
Anyways, that just left the deal with what to do with the three when they were reborn. Of course their memories had to be wiped. But as they found out in the past it didn't necessarily mean they wouldn't remember. They had some particular nasty experiences in the past of a fallen celestial being remembering the person they once were.
"Have Vetis be reborn first," he decided after a moment's thought. "Wait about 20 years before you allow Sheli and Miki to be reborn after Vetis becomes a human." Nakir nodded curtly.
"Any instructions about the rebirth process of Sheli and Miki?"
"Don't have them born too close together distance wise, but in the aspect of time whatever you wish."
"Will that be all?"
"Yes; no, wait. Send Mihr in here."
"Very well then, I shall take my leave." Michael watched Nakir exit the room before dropping the report Nakir just gave him on top of the stack which was building by his feet. All the paperwork he had to go through on a daily basis was ridiculous. Celestial death paperwork like the one he went through just now was particularly nasty because it involved more than one department of angelic order. And humans thought their DMV was bad.
"You called for me Michael?" Michael looked up to see Mihr's bright emerald eyes boring into him. Despite his long brown hair being tied back into a low ponytail, strands of hair always seemed to be in his face.
"Yes," Michael said with a sigh, leaning back into his chair tiredly. "I going to assume you heard the news?"
"About the deaths of Miki, Sheli and Vetis?" Michael nodded. "Of course I heard. Nothing spreads faster than gossip you know."
"I'll keep that in mind," Michael responded with a dry hint of amusement. "But I have a job for you."
"Would it have to do something with Miki and Sheli by any chance?" Miki asked with a knowing smile.
"When they are reborn as humans, yes. It won't be until another 40 years at the very earliest. I want you to watch over them. I'm afraid if they run into each other, things will become complicated, if you know what I mean."
"I can watch over them, but you can't keep a true friendship, even a messed up one as Miki and Sheli's, apart for very long. It's like true love," Mihr explained before pausing a moment to think. "Except your true love can be with someone else. Which is always a complication. But you can be friends with as many people as you want. So really, if you think about it true friendship is better than true love."
"Chamuel would beg to disagree with you there." Mihr waved Michael's response off.
"Point is, you can put them apart, but no matter what they will be drawn together," Mihr said. "I mean they had that nasty falling out and they still remained friends. In a messed up sort of way."
"Their friendship was always strong, just like their pride," Michael agreed.
"Which is why they never reconciled," Mihr lamented with a sigh. "Plus the lack of communication did them in."
"They communicated just fine to me," Michael said with an eyebrow raised. As far as he could see the two went on their normal business after Sheli fell.
"Getting into fist fights and arguments is not communicating Michael," Mihr groaned, obviously frustrated with the archangel.
"That's all they did before Sheli fell," Michael shot back. "I don't see how there was much of a difference."
"Well before Sheli fell they were inseparable best friends," Mihr said slowly, as if he was trying to explain to a young human child. "After she fell they became frienemies. There is a HUGE difference I'll have you now. HUGE."
"I'll take your word for it," Michael said quickly, not wanting to debate the topic with Mihr. Once he got started on something, he just didn't stop. Anyways, as far as he was concerned the only thing that was different between the two when Sheli fell was that they didn't have him to break them up.
Both could have been great archangels if they weren't so childish. He saw more mature humans. He saw more mature children humans. Which is why they got taken down by Vetis; both always let their emotions control them. Sheli more than Miki obviously.
"Anyways, back on topic what did you want me to do once they were reborn?" Mihr asked, directing the conversation back to the original starting point.
"I want you to stop anything that will keep them from remembering their lives as angels," Michael explained. "Like you said, they will no doubt be drawn to each other. The only way I could keep them separate is if I have them living in a different time period."
"And you don't want to do that."
"No," Michael confirmed. He could do that no problem, but he felt if they lived in the same time period they could start from scratch. Then when both die again perhaps things would be different. He didn't have any expectations, but it was always good to hope.
"I see," Mihr said slowly, smiling knowingly. "Well, I'll certainly do my best."
"That's all I can ask."
"Will that be all?"
"Yes. You may go."
Mihr chuckled as left the room, closing the door firmly behind him. Once again in solitude, Michael took a sidelong glance at the paperwork on the top of the pile.
He hoped his plan would work.
