Full Summary:

Anna Williams had a huge secret that was dictating her life. She'd run away from home at sixteen, gotten a job as a waitress at a tea shop working for her new friend/saviour, and avoided new people and places in general all because of what she could do.

Her new life began at age thirteen when she'd discovered the grisly murder scene of her best friend's family. Ever since then the ghost of her best friend followed her everywhere silently pleading with her to do something. Anna's huge secret: she could see ghosts.

Now, ten years later, Anna is forced to face her best friend's death when the grisly murders begin again, and a mysterious detective pushes her to remember.

A/N: Hi all. I've decided to participate in NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month; check out www. nanowrimo . com for more information) this November. The goal is to write 50000 words in the 30 days of November, which is equivalent to about a 175 page novel. As part of this I've decided to keep with my usual writing style and that's to post my creation on, in this case, fictionpress . com.

Anyways, I'm super excited to be participating in this, so please let me know what you think of my creation. Thanks!

Prologue:

It always starts the same. A bright and sunny day; a happy day. Deceiving. And there I am. But I'm not the same. I'm about a foot shorter and I'm wearing my dark hair in pigtails. I never wear pigtails anymore.

I'm skipping along on the sidewalk, down my street. I'm excited about something and in a hurry.

When I think about it later, I can never remember why I'm so happy.

And then, suddenly, I reach my destination: Kristin's house. My best friend. That's when things become hazy. The sun begins to dim and everything seems so dull.

I ring the doorbell, but I don't wait for an answer. I never did. I push inside the house. I know this house like the back of my hand, mud room to the left, kitchen straight ahead, living room to the right.

The hair on the back of my neck prickles. I know something's wrong. Where's Coco, Kristen's dog? She was always there to greet me at the door.

I look around and then make my way to the living room. And that's when I see what's wrong.

Blood everywhere.

There's Mrs. Horton lying across the couch, blood dripping from the slit at her throat. And Mr. Horton is sitting in his favourite chair, staring straight ahead. Only he couldn't see anything on account of the huge gash in his chest.

And Kristin is there too. She's looking right at me, but I know she can't see me, because I know she's gone.

That's when I open my mouth to scream. But nothing comes out.

Instead, things get even darker and a fog seems to seep in from the floor. I'm terrified. I want to run, but I'm stuck. My legs won't move.

And that's when I hear it. My name being called in a familiar, impossible voice.

"Anna... An... na..."

It's coming from behind me. I don't want to turn, but my body begins to slowly turn of its own accord. Body first, then head. Finally, I force my eyes to look up from the shrouded floor.

"An...na..."

It's Kristin. She's wearing her favourite pink dress. She looks the picture of good health. Except that she's frighteningly pale.

"An... na..." she moans again. "Help me…"

And that's when it all hits me and I scream and scream and scream.

And when I wake up from the horrible dream, I'm still screaming. Because it wasn't just a dream, it was my reality.

So that was my short little prologue to get the ball rolling. I hope you enjoyed and as always reviews are much appreciated.

Oh and I just wanted to say thanks to Ren Kayashima for the title of this story. :)

Thanks!
