It has been about a month since Temperance recovered from her cold, and everyday has been a blank to me. Oh how time seems to fly by so fast. Just like how this day went by in a blink of an eye. What in the world did we do in class today? I pondered a bit more, trying to recover my memories, Wait a moment, I'm walking in the direction to school. Then that must mean the day hasn't started yet... Wow, I wonder how it's going to be like when I get older.
"The annual dance is coming up this Friday," I heard from a pair of upperclassmen ahead of me. Their conversation was a bit muffled from the rain, but still clearly reached my ears.
"I know right?" the other girl said. "I can't wait to see the guys over at Stoic."
"At least I can have an excuse to dance with my boyfriend."
"Oh darn you girl," her friend slung her arm around her friend with a large grin on her face. "You going to leave me all alone in the middle of a group of dancing people?"
"I thought you wanted to dance with the guys at Stoic."
"But I want to hang out with you too."
"It better be."
Dance with Stoic? Wow, I think I'm going crazy, I shuddered, thinking back to that one strange dream I had a while back. So the Aurora in my dreams can predict the future? This is somewhat interesting now that I think about it. Now if only I can control myself in those dreams.
"Yvonne," my roommate's voice snapped me out of my thoughts. There she was, standing at the gates, wearing a very puffy scarf and a jacket that came down to her knees. An umbrella was held in her hand as the other hand waved at me.
"Temperance?" I gave her a questioning look. "What are you doing out here?"
"Waiting for you of course," although the bottom-half of her face was covered, her eyes shown that she was smiling.
"...don't tell me it's after school already," I paled while walking to her. "I came after school instead of before school didn't I? It explains why I didn't see you in bed before I left."
"No silly, I had to take care of somethings. I must say, your sleeping face is also cute," she giggled while holding her umbrella above the both of us.
My cheeks went a bit red at that statement, I wish I had a something to hide my face. "Here, let me," I took the water repelling object into my hand.
"Thanks." She wrapped her arms around herself and shivered, "are you cold at all? Just looking at you right now makes me colder,"
I stood and tried to feel the air around me, "nope. Come on, let's go before you freeze to death."
"You know, you could have at least worn sweat pants or a jacket," my roommate buried her face in her scarf more as we walked. "Yes, a least a jacket in this rain."
"But it would feel uncomfortable for me. Besides," I eyed her legs, shouldn't you be wearing a longer skirt, or at least knee-length socks?"
"I should, but you can keep me warm," she pressed her side against me. "Why are you so warm despite being so wet?" her head rubbed against my chest.
"I don't know," my arm automatically went around her shoulders as my face was surely being dyed a deep red color. It became a habit of mine to do so whenever she was this close.
"Ah, did you hear about the 80's dance that's coming up?"
"I've heard it being talked about by the upperclassmen. Why?"
"I was wondering if you were going," Temperance looked up with shining eyes.
"Mmm," I shrugged. "Probably not. I'm a shut-in, so things like dances aren't really in my bin of interests."
"Say what?" Katherine's voice was right behind us. The sound of her voice was quickly followed by her arm around my neck, "isn't you being a shut-in more of a reason to go?"
"Nooo, I don't wanna," I grasped her arm and tried to pry them off.
"Tempy's going. Shouldn't that be enough reason to go?"
I looked up at the brunette, damn, I kinda want to go now... but if she's going, them she probably has a date already, even though these things don't require dates... Wait-what? Why am I feeling disappointed?
"She's going with me though."
Just as I thought, a sigh left my lips. "I'll uhhh... I'll think about it."
"You have no choice since I already have your costume~"
"What?" I quickly turned around after being freed from the headlock, but she was already far away. "Katherine!" I shouted, but her figure disappeared down the hall as she turned a corner. "...so I really have no choice..."
"Don't worry Yvonne. I'm sure it'll suit you just fine," Temperance patted my back.
"Mmm," a sigh left my lips as we slip off, heading to our respected classrooms.
I walked down the halls of the dorm to find neon colored posters plastered on the walls, Don't Chu Want Me Baby? Ball. Annual 80's dance held at Pandemonium High for Girls. A wide grin stole my face when I read it through, I've always wanted to go to an 80's dance! Who will I bring as my date though? Down the hall Tommy came in from the pouring rain and continued towards me, my heart practically beating out of my chest.
"Hey," his dark eyes glanced my way before looking at the poster, "This is what that girl was talking about." My heart sank and my face warmed in embarrassment for evening thinking of asking him, "So who are you taking?"
I scratched the back of my head. "I don't know yet," I said honestly.
The brunette nodded in response. "Well I hope I'll see you there," he said before continuing down the hall.
Ugh I hate that I like you, I mean I can't ever tell you and every time you look my way I feel like my heart is going to explode. Sulking I made my way back to my empty dorm room, my cell phone rang on the nightstand. Laying back on my bed I flipped it open,
"Yeah Eevee?" I asked cheerfully trying to hide away my jumbled feelings.
"Hey," she said not sounding much better than me. "Did you hear about that 80's dance?"
"Yes, do you wanna go? Or do you have a date?" I teased. "Haven't asked little Tempy yet?" I chuckled when I imagined her face reddening in response.
"Katherine's is taking her," Yvonne said softly.
"Oh." I guess neither of us have luck.
"What about you?" she asked curiously.
I shrugged my shoulders. "I guess we're going together then. Now everyone will think I'm gay," I groaned.
"Hey," Eevee retorted.
"I'm trying to be undercover here is all I'm saying," I supplied. "At least the 80's were the androgynous times, hopefully everyone will think you're my girlfriend or something."
"That has to be the weirdest thing you've ever told me, but alright."
Lost in thought I hardly remembered I was on the phone, "Sorry you gotta have me as your date."
"At least it's a 80's themed dance," she tried to cheer me up.
I rolled over onto my stomach, "Listen, I'm not feeling too well. I'm gonna call it a night."
"Alright," my friend said not questioning my rare quietness or my plan to go to sleep at 5pm.
Later that week on Friday...
With a sigh I watched as Tommy leaned against the wall at the dance too cool to dance with anyone. Did he have to dress up as Sid Vicious?
Me and my date sat at a table drinking our punch, Eevee the rubix cube spoke up, "Why don't you dance with him?"
"Why don't you dance with her?" I shot back motioning with my head towards the pretty brunette who looked made an adorable rendition of Madonna.
"Touché," the asian replied before gazing at said girl nonchalantly.
"Neither of us is with the date we wanted are we?" I asked rhetorically.
"Nope," she replied. "It'd be weird if we were. Who are you anyway wearing that weird yellow shirt?"
"Duh I'm Captain James T. Kirk," I huffed, "The man who is great at seduction yet I don't have the guts to hit on Sid," I sipped my koolaid-esc punch.
"Who's Sid?" my friend asked in confusion, "Does he," she nodded her head towards Tommy, "know about him?"
"Never mind," I gazed on at brunette, suddenly Katie was swept away by another guy while Tommy was urged on to dance by his guy friends. "Wait," I watched as he paired up with Eevee's dream girl.
"Holy crap," my friend sat up in response.
"That's a twist," the two continued to dance a slow dance, both of us gushing over our wanted dates.
"Ahh she's so pretty," Eevee sighed. Tommy swept her across the floor, not once making a mistake, the retro lighting always finding his spiked hair or leather jacket. When the song ended I nearly melted when his dark eyes found mine. My face turned to fire when I realized I had been staring at him the entire time.
Tempy waved at Yvonne and walked over to give her a hug, who in response blushed. Suddenly one of my favorite throwbacks started. I started singing it in my head only for Tommy to sing it out loud. "Oh mama I can hear you crying you're so scared and all alone," his voice matched up perfectly.
"Hangman is coming down from the gallows and I don't have very long," I joined in, the brunette grinned in response. My heart raced when he grabbed my hand and brought me into a rowdy dance, it was impossible to keep my eyes off of him.
"The jig is up, the news is out, they finally found me , the renegade who had it made," excitement lit his dark eyes. Because of the high energy the dance had taken on it didn't even matter if I didn't know how to dance.
I laughed when he pulled out the air guitar and played to the music.
"What?" he asked loudly over the music. "Do I play bad?"
"No," I shook my head while biting back my laughter, "I never imagined you'd be this dorky."
"Ouch that really hurt Kirk," he pouted. "Would you rather I dance like this?" he took my hands and started to slow dance. Blush burning my cheeks I playfully pushed him away, "That's what I thought."
"Where's Nancy tonight?" Tommy continued to dance like a lunatic.
"I went stag tonight," I couldn't help the smile that pulled at my lips.
"What about you? Is that asian girl your date?"
I nodded without thought.
"Hey Yvonne," Temperance took a seat next to me after my friend went to dance with her friend.
"H-hey," I attempted to nonchalantly take a sip of my punch, but it was so difficult to do so. Dammit Katherine! Why did you have to get me a huge squishy rubix cube costume? My hands can only reach to the upper corner of the damn costume. Thank goodness it isn't solid.
Seeing that I had difficulty trying to drink, Temperance held the cup so the straw was to my lips, "here."
"Th-thanks," I looked down to avoid eye contact and drained the beverage. I glanced over at Aurora, Holy crap! Aurora likes him! And he doesn't seem like he like her than more than just a friend. But then again Aurora's a guy right now. Will she have a chance or will she not? I'm a horrible friend for thinking like this! ...or am I? Why am I so slow on these things?
"You thinking again?"
"Hm?" I tilted my head. "Uh, maybe?"
"You know," she placed her elbow on the table and rested her chin on the palm of her hand. "You are so mysterious."
"I know I am. I don't even know what I am... who am I?" I looked at her with begging eyes, "Madonna, who am I really?"
The Madonna impersonator let out a soft chuckle, "a rubix cube of course." I felt her body sink in my costume as she leaned, "a nice comfy one."
"I can be your colorful pillow any time you want."
"Mmm," Temperance's arms leaned on the top of the cube. "You want to dance?"
"Errr," I gulped while feeling her breath against my skin. "I-I can't dance, and even if I could, I would be waddling the whole time since it's difficult to even walk."
"Hey Tempy," Katherine walked up to us. "Want to dance?"
My roommate questioningly looked at me, as if looking for an answer. "Go ahead, I'll just watch."
"Won't you be lonely?"
"Nah." I gestured my head to the approaching Aurora, "friend will keep me company."
"Alright then," she got up and placed a kiss on my cheek. "We'll walk home after, okay?"
"Mmm," I nodded, still a bit shocked about that kiss.
Out of breath I sat back down next to my rubix cube. "Didn't know you were such a good dancer Adonis," Tommy chuckled before joining a nearby Nirvana caused mosh-pit. Sitting there with a dumb grin on my friend began to poke me in the face.
"I thought he was straight," she said lowly with a little lipstick mark on her cheek.
"He is," I ran a hand through my hair.
"Does he know?"
I shook my head, "Nope."
"You can always hope he's bisexual," she said hopefully.
"Yeah," I sighed and turned to her, "What about you?"
"What do you mean 'what about me'?" I squished back to lean against the chair.
"You and Tempy. That lipstick on your cheek can be from no other than Tempy."
"I am an idiot you know," my head turned to gaze at the dancing Temperance. "I feel like I want to protect her from something. I just don't know from what?"
"You are a strange one my rubix cube. I didn't actually know that you would show up like this."
"Isn't that something you're suppose to say at the beginning? Oh," I gasped. "Unless you were to distracted by that guy you were with... that Temperance danced with too... So jealous," I smacked my head against the table, or at least attempted to. "Damn you costume. Won't even let me head-desk."
"Oh my rubix cube," Aurora lightly laughed. "His name is Tommy by the way. He's also my roommate."
"Wow, that must be tough."
"Aren't you in the same position as me?"
"I am? But you are pretending to be a guy."
"Mmm," I shrugged it off.
"Why me," we both sighed as we watched our roommates dance the night away.
A/N: Yay, a quick update never thought I'd actually make it... Well anyway, this idiot probably won't update for a while again because of school projects that keep getting held off and upcoming exams... Thanks people for reading and reviewing~
