Amanda slammed into the room and started dancing around, shaking her backside and singing off key.

"Oh Susanna, don't you cry for me! I got the lead in the play and I'm so awesome!" Amanda continued to dance; Fifi looked up from her work and sighed. She closed her books and twisted in the chair, leaning back against the desk. Amanda finally jumped onto her bed, danced a little more and then dropped like a lead weight onto the mattress. There was a loud crack and Amanda vanished as the mattress sagged through the wooden slats and hit the floor beneath.

"Yeah, you're awesome alright" said Fifi. Their room was tiny; there was just enough room for two beds and two desks. Amanda had a TV on hers while Fifi had a laptop. She stood up and padded across the room, reaching down to Amanda and pulling her out of the broken bed.

"Shit. The university is never gonna pay for another new bed" grunted Amanda.

"Maybe you should stop jumping on them" replied Fifi. As soon as Amanda's feet hit the ground, her face broke into a broad grin and she did a mini jig on the balls of her feet.

"I got the lead in the play though. I have to sing and everything!" Fifi smiled and hoped Amanda could find the right note on the night.

"Let's go and get a drink!" cried Amanda. Fifi looked up at the clock; it was a few minutes past 8pm.

"We can't leave the Halls now. It's past curfew" she said. Amanda groaned and threw up her arms, turning in a small circle.

"Who's gonna know? Besides, they can't really enforce it. We're not a bunch of kids" she said. Fifi shook her head, she wasn't going out. The curfew was in place because six students had been murdered on campus; all had had their heads cut off. So far, all the murders had happened outside when students had been heading back to their Halls but the faculty told everyone to travel in pairs and not answer their doors to anyone they didn't know.

"Let's just stay here. I have a couple bottles of wine in the kitchen fridge?" said Fifi. Amanda snorted and shook her head.

"Nope. I'm gonna go and get hammered. See ya!" Amanda turned and left the room, singing Oh Susanna under her breath.

The clock on the wall told Fifi it was almost two in the morning when she finally switched off her laptop and rubbed her eyes. She stood up and walked across the room, picking up her shower bag as she went. The hallways were silent as she hurried through the gloom to the showers; Fifi locked the door behind her and left the curtain open just in case. She showered, towelled off and hurried back to her room. Amanda still wasn't back but Fifi didn't know if she should be worried or not, once Amanda started drinking it was almost impossible to get her to stop. Fifi changed into her pyjamas and climbed into bed but not before checking that the door was locked tight.

Fifi opened her eyes and frowned, something had woken her but she couldn't figure out what it was. A soft voice floated through the darkness.

"Oh Susanna, don't you cry for me." Fifi sighed, at least Amanda was home but she seemed to have forgotten the words to the rest of the song.

"Oh Susanna, don't you cry for me. Oh Susanna, don't you cry for me." Fifi groaned, she reached out her hand and switched on the bedside lamp. Rolling over in bed, she stopped. There was a man sitting in the chair next to her desk, he was singing under his breath. In his lap was Amanda's head, he was carefully brushing her hair with his fingers.

"Oh, Susanna, don't you cry for me. Oh, Susanna, don't you cry for me." The man placed the head on the desk and turned in the chair to face Fifi; he stood up and walked from the room, still singing under his breath. Fifi sat up and screamed.
