To Be a Poet
By Geoff Gonzalez
To be a poet, as people know it,
Is to be terse, clever, and witty,
For your words to flow and strike with wit,
And your verses, light and flitty.
They must be graceful as a dance,
Yet catch the eye's single glance.
For if they don't, I fear alas,
The reader's test, they will not pass.
So if you think yourself a poet,
A master of words, of love, of life,
Do not hide; let people know it,
That in your life, there be no strife.
