Pick up your pen

of any color but

just one color,

they say. Make it

match a grander

scheme; fit into

the parameters of

your pen. How can I

choose but one

color to refract

into many shades

through the prism

of my pen? When

there are so many

colors bounding in

these letters I see;

that blend into

words, phrases

a mosaic of hues

to build my poem,

a stained-glass window.

This is not crystal

clear, this is not a

perfectly patterned

shape to frame

on your fridge.

This is a puzzle:

a Rubik's cube

and damn it all,

I'll use a rainbow

if I please.
