LAST CHAPTER, guys! Thanks so much for supporting throughout! Love you! Hope you enjoy the last chapter! :DDD And MERRY CHRISTMAS! (I actually spent my time working on this chapter by the poolside, on Christmas XP) Enjoy!
"Let me repeat once again. When we suddenly turn the lights off, the three of us will sneak out of the living room. We will lock the doors to ensure she doesn't leave out of anger when she sees you. In the mean time, you will on the switch over here," Sarah said as she pointed to the switch on the kitchen island, "that will light up all the battery-operated-LED candles that have been lined up around the living room."
"Then I'll carry the bunch of roses and the Swarovski necklace out. And I will confess and apologize to her, right?" I finished off for Sarah.
Both Sarah and Tony nodded satisfactorily.
"So when so we execute the plan?" I asked.
"We will make it as fast as possible after we get out of here," Sarah said excitedly.
"And I will be here watching and cuing you in," Tony added in helpfully.
After a while's silence, with Sarah grinning madly, she exclaimed, "This is going to be so fun! You must make this work, Jason!" She clapped enthusiastically like a five year old getting a new toy.
If it were under normal circumstances, I would have gone along with her. But we were on "mission" now!
She seemed to have realized that as she quickly covered up her mouth, eyes wide, while both Tony and I stared at her incredulously.
"Yep, she's going to make some chicken pie or …" Roy was cut short while telling me what our dinner's going to be when we heard Sarah's exclamation in the kitchen.
Roy froze visibly when he heard it.
I frowned slightly in confusion. "What was that about?" I asked him.
"Er… guess she's on the phone or something," Roy asked. His eyebrows furrowed and he was visibly uncomfortable, shifting slightly in the couch. I could tell he was hiding something. He's acting weird.
"Her phone's on the phone, Roy. Come on, spit it out. I know you are keeping something from me. I heard something about 'fun' and 'Jason'….." I confronted him.
"NO! Nothing of that sort!" He immediately jumped up, as though my words startled him.
"I know something's wrong. I have known you for so long, Roy. You are lying," I said, now standing up, about to make my way to the kitchen to find out what's going on. I thought I heard whispers just now, and the fact that Sarah seemed to be exclaiming to someone, I was quite positive there was another person present.
"Wait! No, you can't go in there!" Roy said hurriedly, panicking slightly, while trying to block me from going to the kitchen.
Now, there's really something going on in there now.
I smirked at him. "No can do!" I answered him mischievously, before going around the couch and made my way to the kitchen.
"Oh no…" Tony said.
They heard the involuntary exclamation from Sarah. And Kelly's making her way to the kitchen while Roy was failing miserably at keeping her out.
My heart thumped. Oh no, she's going to come in and be angry when she sees me here and she's going to leave in fury.
"Ah, crap." Sarah gasped as Kelly's footsteps sounded closer every second.
The three of us stood frozen to the ground, seemingly unable to move.
"Sarah?" Kelly's angelic voice was sounded.
Sarah snapped to reality upon hearing her name being called. She looked around the kitchen, and her eyes landed on the nearest door that was behind me.
She hurried over and opened it, before shoving me into the dark 'room', saying, "Time for plan B. Stay in here." With that, she shut the door and darkness enveloped me.
I was stunned to silence at the sudden movement.
When my eyes adjusted to the darkness, I made out this was Roy's underground cellar, with rows of wine stored in here.
God, what was she thinking? Locking me in the cellar? I had only been down here once or twice before to get wine. Now I don't know what's going on and how I would be able to apologize to Kells. And the best part was, there's no signal underground.
I stepped into the kitchen, to find Tony standing in there as well.
"Tony? What are you doing here? When did you arrive?" I asked incredulously,
"Oh haha, he just came in from the back door. I invited him too," Sarah chirped, before releasing a deep breath. Weird. "Because he had his car parked nearer to the back door. Come on, let's make the our dinner together!" She added in quickly before I could question any further.
"Okay… So how can I help?" I asked, deciding to let the matter rest.
"Let's see… You and Tony can help me get the chicken and cheese and flour out of the refrigerator," Sarah instructed.
"Right," I said as both Tony and I headed for the fridge.
While taking the ingredients out, I caught Sarah and Roy making hand signs to each other discreetly, well maybe not so discreetly since I caught them. They looked as though they were planning for some mission.
"What are the two of you doing?" I stopped my work and turned around to ask, amused at their behavior.
"Oh nothing," Roy quickly said, "just out secret code."
"Right. Nothing, again?" I asked with sarcasm.
"Ah. Kells, you are too inquisitive for your own good. Now, will you please get to the cellar and help to retrieve the 1989's wine for dinner?" He quickly diverted.
"Now? We haven't even get the pie done!" I said. When he merely shrugged, I continued in a mock hurt tone, " Are you trying to get rid of me?"
He let out a chuckle before saying, "maybe".
"Kelly, just go and find the wine. You will take long enough for the dinner to be cooked," Tony added in oh so helpfully.
"I'm not going in alone. I don't even know the place well," I grumbled.
Upon hearing that, Sarah chimed in and volunteered, "I will show you in!" She took to her feet and guided me to the cellar's door.
"Oh here it is. Just go in and turn right. Then look for the wine on the second row," she gave me a light shove into the dimly lit cellar.
After taking a few steps, I turned around to ask her why she was not coming along, before I saw the door slam shut.
"Sarah?! Open up!" I knocked furiously on the door. I heard a giggle from the other side of the door.
God! What on earth were they thinking? Acting all weird and working in cahoots to lock me in a freaking cellar?
"Ooops Kelly, the door's locked. Go find the wine while we look for the key to unlock it," She said way too happily.
"Noo, wait, Sarah! Don't leave me alone in the cellar!" I quickly added in, but getting no reply.
"Tony? Roy!" I shouted for them, but to no avail as well. Oh god, are my friends going berserk? There's no ventilation in the cellar! And it's so dimly lit….
I slipped out my phone, ready to call for help, when a deep masculine voice sounded.
"Save it, there's no signal here."
I jumped, placing a hand over my heart.
"Jason? What's going on? What are you doing here? Did they lock you up as well?" I asked him, somewhat relieved to know he was here, but the other part of me wasn't really looking forward to be left alone with Jason.
Jason studied me for a while, as though trying to decipher what I was thinking, before letting out a soft sigh.
"They locked us in on purpose because they want us to talk. It wasn't supposed to be like this, but you were about to walk in on us in the kitchen just now. So Sarah pushed me in to the cellar," He explained cautiously, watching me intently.
"Why can't they just let us talk outside?" I asked.
"They were afraid you'd be angry and storm out of the house when you see me."
"Oh, so they were not afraid I would escape now?"
"It's locked. We are underground, with no signal," he said with a slight small.
"Oh," I mumbled intelligently, not knowing what to say. I rolled my eyes in frustration, having mixed feelings for Jason and being stuck in such an awkward situation.
"Don't be angry at them, Kells. They were only trying help me… help us get back together," he must have mistook my frustration for anger. When what he said registered in my head, my head shot up to his slightly nervous gaze.
"Get back together?" I whispered, shaking my head in disbelief. Didn't he choose Stephanie over me?
"Kells… don't be like this. Let me finish my part before you say anything else or… or reject me," he gulped as he took in my shaking form, "Kells, I was really a jerk and fool. I didn't know I was causing you so much pain at first when I was with Stephanie. But I really do realize I am in love with you now and I have broken up with her. I am really sorry for causing you so much pain, Kelly..." He gushed out desperately.
"I love you, Kells. Will you forgive me?" He whispered to me. His emerald eyes looked pleadingly into mine.
I was stunned. I wasn't expecting that. Tears slowly sprang from my eyes as I felt my heart warm up.
"Jason… I… I'm sorry…" I couldn't finish my sentence as I felt my emotions overwhelm me. I suddenly felt a sense of enlightenment, as though I was given a chance to forget the past and put everything down and forgive. Yet, I was too breathless to say anything.
"Kells…. Please don't cry. It's okay," Jason said desperately, "I will get them to open the door."
"Guys! Just open the door," he managed to say before his own voice cracked. He looked away from me as the door slowly creaked open, revealing three guilty and disappointed figures.
What? He was letting me go so easily? He didn't even bother to persuade me?
"You fool! Are you really going to let me go so easily?" I half-shouted, half-grinned at him, as he stared bewilderedly at me.
"You forgive me? I thought…" before he could finish, I closed the gap between us and jumped into his arms.
"You fool!" I mumbled into the crook of his neck as I felt his arms tighten around my waist.
"Do you forgive me?" he still insisted.
"Yes!" I cried, unable to help myself. "I love you, Jason."
I pulled away slightly so I was looking into his startling eyes. "I am so sorry for not telling you my feelings for you earlier. I am so sorry for not giving you a chance to explain yourself. I made such a mess of myself. I am so sorry…"
Before I could finish, his lips came crashing down on mine.
As his soft lips pulled away, I could hear distant hooting and cheering from the trio.
The sides of Jason's lips were tugged up in a charming smile as he noticed my dazed look.
"Don't be. I love you, Mrs Grey," he whispered into my ears, before putting his lips on mine again.
"I love you."
Maybe this is what love is. To learn to forgive and forget, whether you like it or not.
