A/N: Yes, it's depressing. Yes, it's strong.

I don't own the song lyrics. I do, however, own the characters in the story.

Lay me down
Wash this blood off my hands for me while I cry out

She knelt by his side, her hand grasping his wrist, hoping for a pulse. When she found none, her shoulders fell slightly. She didn't even notice that her hands were wet with his blood as she began to cry.

Don't let me die before I go to sleep

"You can't be dead!" was all the girl voiced. Indeed, she was but a girl, a slim figure of nineteen. "It wasn't... not..." her voice cracked and she choked up

And I can't keep going
But I cannot start again

She knew she had to leave. But she didn't want to leave his side. She closed her eyes, concentrating and dispelling the husk of a body his spirit had once inhabited. Now she had no reason to stay... but none to go.

This road I walk is paved with broken promises I've made

Her best friend had fallen in battle... not by her own hand, but it felt like it. She was weak enough to be captured, she was weak enough to beg for her friend to not be harmed. And she was weak enough to believe that the promise she made her friend would be fulfilled. That promise had been broken. As had many other promises.

At least a million times I've fallen
But never will I break

No matter how many times she was captured. No matter how many times they tortured her for vital information. They got nothing. She refused to shatter. She owed her friends that much. She owed him that much.

These walls I make
They could hold me in and hold me back today

She glared at the walls of her cell, knowing that they were only another obstacle in her life.

Oh but tomorrow's new and I'll walk right out and walk right over you

And when the guard came, well... he was overconfident.

If you hear me screaming
Please don't let me fall again

A scream shattered the silence as she was recaptured... rather roughly at that. Her next scream caught roughly in her throat as she saw his silhouette among her captors.. and not that of a beaten, broken prisoner. She tried to call his name, but he turned away, ignoring her.

This road I walk is paved with broken promises I've made

Jaden confronted her, challenging her as to why the ginger was dead. The girl couldn't form a coherent reply. Another promise broken, another friend fallen.

At least a million times I've fallen
But never will I break

This was the last time she wanted to fall; the last time she wanted to get up. Yet, even as she thought that, she did so anyway, keeping her spirit whole, tattered, but whole.

My time is on its way
I'll fall but I won't break

She felt it this time, her back had broken. They thought if she couldn't get out, she'd break sooner. They were wrong.

This road I walk is paved with broken promises I've made
At least a million times I've fallen
But never will I break

This road I walk is paved with broken promises I've made
At least a million times I've fallen
But never will I break

They had had enough. He came in and she looked up at him, a pleading look in her aquamarine eyes. His silver ones held no mercy, no hint of their previous love. He pulled her to her feet, and abruptly broke her neck, then let her body fall.
