Demons of the Night

The sun sets. The world is covered by night,

For the feeble light of the stars cannot match

The power of the demons who yearn to take flight

Into the dreams of those paralyzed with fright.

Though they cling to the last light of day, they can only watch

As the sun sets. The world is covered by night,

Leading children to their parents' bed sides despite

Sweet lullabies, for their innocent dreams often hatch

The demons who yearn to take flight

From one mind to the next. The weary traveler continues without light,

For he has no time to stop. He tries to snatch

The final glow of sunset, but the world is covered by night.

He stumbles over rocks and twigs, trying to find the right

Way, unaware that he has fallen victim to the bewitching

Power of the demons who yearn to take flight.

And so the world continues the cycle, surrendering to the might

Of those who rule the shadows. They watch

As the sun sets and the world is covered by night

And the power of the demons who yearn to take flight.
