Secret of the Monster

Back that way, they told me, lived the Monster. In this small village the Monster had been a myth. Well, it was until a couple a days ago. I moved to the village this summer hoping for a fresh new start. My friends told me the story about the Monster coming in the night to steal children and lived in the creepy dark house on the other side of town.

On a warm sunny day my friends and I walked across town causing mischief. We soon became bored and started to dare each other. Timmy, who is my younger brother, dared me to go into the Monster's house. I started to say no but then he called me a coward and to shut him up, I agreed. We made our way down the long curved road to the house. It was an old, small abandoned two story house. I hopped over the gate and scratched myself on the briars. After that I carefully avoided the nettles and crept over to the steps leading up to the house.

Taking a deep breath I started up the five steps. On the last step I glanced over my shoulder. My friends were grinning up at me. I turned back and slowly opened the wooden door. I stepped inside to be met with a horrible sight. Cobwebs hung from the ceiling and everything was covered with dust but the worst thing was the smell. It smelled like a sewer. As I turned around the door slammed shut. I ran to it and tried to pull it open but it was locked. Suddenly I heard a creaking sound and turned around again.

All I could see was darkness and the creaking got louder. I shrank back fearing the worst. The creaking stopped suddenly and I could barely breathe. 'Who's in my house?' a voice roared. I pressed my back into the wall as light came in though a window. The Monster was staring at me. It had small red beady eyes, a mouth full of razor sharp teeth, no nose and had mould growing on its back. 'Why have you disturbed my rest?' it roared. I did not reply because I was frozen with fear.

The Monster roared and I began to scream. The monster was shocked so it backed up a small bit. I could see for myself that the Monster seemed to be afraid of me as much as I was afraid of it. I howled again even louder this time knowing fully well that it would back off. 'Let me out or I'll fight you to the death' I snarled. The monster turned and ripped the door open. I ran outside and my friends were waiting for me. No way was I telling them what happened they would never ever believe me.
