I can see nothing. It's so dark. Why did I have to go out on a night like tonight? Hands outstretched in front of me, I try to feel for something, anything. What was that noise? I look around and try to see, but there's nothing. Damn it! Why didn't I take a flashlight? Still searching, wanting security. There's that noise again. What is that? I can see something, faintly glowing in the dark. It's getting closer. No! No! Stay away! It has me in it's grasp. Where are you taking me? No! Please! No!

I awoke the next morning in a cold sweat. Man, that was some dream. At least I hoped it was a dream. It seemed so real. I could actually feel its tight grip on my arms. Shaking it off, I got out of bed and headed to the bathroom. I undid my hair and stepped into the shower, allowing the hot, steamy water to melt away the knots in my neck. What was it about the dream that had me so shaken up? Evil stuff like that didn't exist. Right? I got dressed and headed out the door, ready to face another day of work. I love my job. I'm an officer for the Marinette County police department in northern Wisconsin. My name is Gracie McManus. I've been a police officer for five years. And within those five years, I've seen a lot of nasty stuff. But nothing could prepare me for what I would encounter later.
