Countdown-
Summary: Suddenly, out of nowhere, a green aluminous clock appears in the sky. Its countdown appears as follows: 01:00:00:00:00:00. The next second, it reads as 00:11:29:23:59:59.
You don't know what it is. You don't know what it is counting down to. You can only imagine what is to come. What will you do?
Scientists, theorists, and the world, altogether have either gone into chaos or have band together to find out what this mysterious countdown, counts down to. Many fear that it is the countdown to the end of the world, and many fear the possibilities. Little embrace it.
Will you die, survive or live?
Alan is 18 years old. He has just graduated from high school with his best friends, Jorge and Danny. They spend a night celebrating at a cliff top bonfire, along with a few other close friends.-
A loud flash disrupts them. The countdown begins.
Alan couldn't be happier. He had finally escaped from the wretched halls and confinement of high school and tonight was his first night of freedom. Together with his best friends, Jorge and Danny they hung out at a cliff top bonfire along with some closer friends.
"Ah! This is the life," Alan said, roasting his marshmallows in the open flame. "I can't believe it's finally over."
"I know right! Dude, I'm getting my new car tomorrow, I can't fucking wait," Danny exclaimed, a huge grin across his face as he fantasized about the possibilities. "I can drive chicks around and chill out in my ride, use my car to pick up more chicks."
Jorge laughed, "You wish." He kissed his girlfriend, Hannah, on the cheek, his arm wrapped around her waist. "Love you baby," he whispered in her hair. She smiled and did a few motions with her hands and Josh replied with a loving smile.
Hannah was mute. She was very petite and Jorge had found that she was perfect for him. He loved her very much, and in fact was going to propose to her this very night. They didn't have to get married right away, he thought. It would be just a promise ring, he reassured himself. Alan was aware that the two argued constantly and when Jorge had told Alan of his plans, Alan was not too sure that was a good idea. They had only been dating for two months after all.
Danny's sister, Courtney, stood near the cliff edge with her girlfriend, Saab. The two have been together for about a week yet they were already head over heels. Danny was happy for his sister and Saab. In fact, he was quite jealous. He wished that he could be that much in love. Danny hated his life, and the only thing he could want more... is Alan. But he was unsure. Alan had been his best friend for a while now and he didn't want his possibly unrequited love to ruin what they already had. He was scared that he was going to lose Alan to Alyssa, Alan's best friend from middle school, although whenever Josh teases Alan about going out with Alyssa, Alan replies with, "Ew, incest?"
Alan was that everything guy, in Danny's eyes. His looks, personality, everything was attractive. Everyone liked him. He was Mr. Popular and perfect. He was kind and funny, caring and sweet. He said what was on his mind and never cared about what others would think about him, and because of that he gained respect of Danny. He was sometimes hated because of that though, and everyone knows Alan is pansexual. His dating history is tremendous and very, very various.
He sighed. It's never going to happen.
Danny walked over and interrupted his sister's make out session with her girlfriend. "Hey Courtney," he said.
The two quickly pulled away from their smothering kisses and replied "Oh, hi Danny."
"What are you guys up to?" He said, hoping that their company would distract him from his thoughts.
"Not that much re-"Courtney began only to be interrupted by Saab, "Having hardcorez make out duh. What does it look like?"
Danny laughed, a little annoyed but he didn't care. Saab was his friend and he was perfectly fine with his sister dating another girl. It must run in the family.
Danny glanced at Alan, who was talking and roasting marshmallows with Alyssa by the bonfire. He looked away, jealous. It's never going to happen, he repeated in his head.
Yesterday, Alyssa had broken up with her boyfriend of ten months, Adam. She was obviously very frustrated and annoyed and heartbroken at the same time and she was glad that Alan was here to comfort her.
"Aly, Adam is bullshit. Like, whenever you guys break up, all he does is try to guilt trip you. Forget about that asshole. You deserve better."
She laughed, "I know right? I'm not going to fall for the same trick two million times."
"Oh, but you already have. Remember when you broke up with Adam for Nick-" Adam started.
"Oh shut up!" she punched him in the arm and laughed.
Fuck, the two were already practically a couple, Danny repeated in his head.
Alan stared up at the sky and contemplated his life. He looked at his watch and it was about to be midnight in a few minutes. Oh, sweet freedom. He contemplated life for a moment and now that he had graduated, there was a list of things he wanted to do. "Hey Danny!" he yelled, got up and sat beside him at the cliff edge. "When you get your car tomorrow, can you drive me to get my piercings and shit? Oh and I want to get my hair dyed too."
"Sure, although I could be picking up girls. You're lucky you have me," Danny laughed. Alan had been looking forward to getting all of this done for a while now.
"Ah, now I'm excited for tomorrow. Thanks man." He patted Danny on the back and smiled.
"Sure, anything for a friend," Danny replied.
"Guys, I have an announcement to make," Jorge exclaimed. They all got up and circled around the bonfire, Alan smiled and Courtney, Saab and Alyssa were giggling to themselves. Hannah looked completely oblivious.
"It is almost midnight and the date is July 20th, 2012, and I, Jorge Blakely am asking you, Hannah Blanch to be my wife." He got on one knee and held Hannah's hand, kissed it, and took out a velvet box from his pocket. Hannah gasped and blushed.
The second Jorge opened the purple velvet box, a flash erupted blinding everyone and a loud boom deafened their ears.
The next second, when they opened their eyes, a faint green glow illuminated everyone's faces.
"What... the... fuck..." Alan mumbled staring at the sky.
In the sky, was a countdown.
