(I'm sorry it's taken me a while to update. Here's another chapter. Don't worry, things'll pick up soon.)
I had once again taken a book outside to read in the grass. It was one of my favorite pastimes as of late. The sunshine felt nice and provided natural light for me. I was distracted when yet another plane crash landed in front of me. I knew there was only one pilot who would crash land like that.
"Nice flying there, Ace." I called out to Ace.
"Oh, ow. My ego." He said sarcastically as he climbed out of the pilot's seat.
"You have too much of an ego." I smirked.
"Whatcha readin'?" He asked, sitting in the grass next to me.
"The Wizard of Oz." I answered. It had been one of my favorite books since I was a little girl.
"Nice choice."
"You always say that." I rolled my eyes jokingly.
"It's kind of my line." He joked.
"Mmhmm, sure it is." I said sarcastically. Ace laughed laid back into the grass. "You're so weird. What's with you crash landing all of the time?" I asked him.
"I get distracted by the beauty below."
"What beauty?" I asked, feeling a complement coming on.
"Mostly you." He shrugged.
"You think you're quite the charmer." I shoved him playfully.
"Why, yes I do." He said matter-of-factly.
"Guess again." I smirked.
"You don't seem to mind." He poked me in the side.
"I like your personality, not your charm." I joked lightly.
"I said that you didn't mind it, not that you didn't like it." He pointed out. He had a point.
"Same thing." I said even though it technically wasn't.
"No it isn't."
"Yes it is." I felt a lover's quarrel coming on.
"Yuh-huh. Not minding means you tolerate it, liking means you enjoy it." Of course, Ace was right, but I'd never admit it.
"You're lucky I tolerate you." I joked with him.
"And you're lucky I'm here to tolerate."
"Oh really?" I asked.
"Yep. Your time here would be no fun without me."
"Yes it would. I wouldn't have to worry about our planes falling out of the sky all of the time." This was the second time Ace had crashed a plane since we met. Ace rolled his eyes. "You know it's true." I smirked and nudged him gently.
"Fine." He sighed in defeat. "I see your point..."
"Aww," I made a mock pouty face, "did I rain on your parade?"
"Yes." He gave me a half mock pouty face.
"Somebody needs to downsize your ego." I said half joking. Ace rolled his eyes at me. "It's true."
"You know you love it." He said matter-of-factly.
"Not really." I shook my head.
"Yes you do." He poked my side. "You find it sexy."
"I find you sexy, not your ego." I admitted. "Your ego is the opposite." I wasn't a big fan of egos unless the person deserved it.
"Okay, toning it down. But only because you called me sexy." He held his hands up in defeat.
"Oh yes, that's so toning it down." My voice dripped with sarcasm. He rolled his eyes and wrapped an arm around my shoulders as I went back to my book.
"Would you like to go do something sometime?" Ace asked me.
"Like what? There's nothing to do here." I said. Ace pointed to his plane. "I don't trust you and a plane." I joked.
"Hey, I only crash 'cause you're on the ground." That's Ace, always trying to be the charmer.
"I still don't trust you." I laughed. "Seriously though, what do you have in mind?"
"That was what I had in mind." He frowned at me.
I gave him a look like 'seriously?' "You're funny if you think I'm going anywhere near that flying metal death trap." I had been scared of heights ever since I could remember.
Ace paused then gave me a knowing smile. "I get it now. You're scared of heights, aren't you?"
"Yep, since I was a little girl."
"Hmmm..." He got that look on face like a light bulb had just been turned on in his mind.
"You're not going to try to get rid of my fear." I stated. It was impossible.
"How'd you guess?" He asked.
"Because I know you."
"Guilty as charged." He admitted.
"Please don't, Ace." I pleaded with him.
"My mind is already made up." Great, he was going to be stubborn about this.
"Ace, I'm serious. Don't. You don't want to mess with an angry ginger." I warned him. I had quite the temper about some things.
"Too bad."
"No." I said firmly.
"Too late." Ace shrugged.
"I will hurt you." Of course I wouldn't really hurt Ace, but still.
"Good luck with that." He smirked.
I pushed him down onto the grass and basically tackled him. "I don't need luck." I smirked down at him.
He rolled on top of me. "Are you sure about that?"
I pushed him off of me and onto his back. I basically straddled him while restraining his arms. "Yes, I'm sure."
He rolled back on top of me. "Well... This is awkward." He said after a long pause.
"Imagine if someone found us." I tried to hold in my laughter.
"I don't care." He started kissing my neck.
"I do." I let out a soft moan. He kissed his way up to my lips.
"This is hot." Ace said, pulling his lips away from mine.
"You're so frisky." I laughed as I pushed him away gently.
"No, I mean it got hot all of a sudden. Didn't you feel it?" He asked me.
"No, I think you're delusional." I joked lightly.
"Probably all in my head." He shrugged it off.
"Maybe it is." I shrugged. Ace definitely wasn't insane, or "Shell Shocked", I'd seen what that looks like.
"Guess we'll never know."
"We'll know if you all of a sudden go crazy." I pointed out.
"I guess so." He put his arm around my shoulders while I put my head on his shoulder. Ace eventually broke the silence. "Have you ever thought about getting married?" He asked.
"Someday, why?" I asked, taken aback by his question.
"I don't know. I'd never even though about it until now." He admitted.
"I believe that." Ace never seemed like the type of person to think about things like marriage.
"Shut up!" He pushed me lightly.
"What? I just meant that it'd take an extremely special girl to tie you down."
"There ya go, Addie-girl." He said. I rolled my eyes at the nickname.
"What?" I asked.
"That's a much better answer." He said cheerfully.
"You really think she's out there?" I asked, it wasn't that I didn't believe in love, I was just curious.
"Out there... In here..." He confirmed.
"You know, she might not be your dream girl." I pointed out.
"Maybe not, but she's everything I need." Okay, I admit, Ace could be quite the charmer when he wanted to be.
"And what do you need?" I asked as I laid back into the grass.
"Since when do humans know what they need?" He had a good point.
"It was just a question."
"Alright." He sighed. "What do I need? I need someone who's fun, that's important. Someone who can take a joke. And someone who can keep me in line at the same time."
"Keep you in line?" I questioned.
"If she didn't, I'd get out of control."
"So basically someone who'll beat you with a stick?" I joked.
"Yep!" He smiled.
My mind went straight to the gutter. "Oh God."
"Not what I was thinking. But yea, that too." He smiled at me.
"You're disgusting sometimes." I laughed.
"Thank you." He did a little bow.
"Well, you're welcome."
"We're quite the pair, aren't we?" He smiled some more.
"Yep." I smirked. "But you know you love me."
"Yes, I do." He said kissing me.
"Really?" I asked.
"Really, really."
"I don't believe you." I admitted. I always needed proof for these kinds of things.
"How," he kissed my cheek, "can I" then my forehead, "prove it?" and then my nose.
"Hearing it would be nice." All girls love to be told that they're loved; it lets them know they're wanted, or well, loved.
"Adelaide, I am truly and completely in love with you. There is no way you're getting rid of me now." He admitted. I felt a pang of guilt at the use of my fake name, and then my heart skipped a beat when he said he was in love with me.
"I love you too." I admitted to him.
"Oh, thank God." He let out a sigh of relief.
"You thought I didn't?" I asked.
"I was worried for a bit." He gave me a sheepish smile.
"Why?" I asked.
"You can't be too sure with these things when it comes to other people." Damnit, he was always right.
"Well, now you can. At least with me." I kind of lied. He could be sure that I was in love with him, but he couldn't be sure about my name or when I was born. Ace pulled me into his chest, which was surprisingly comfortable.
"What are you doing?" I asked him.
"Pinch me, I must be dreaming." He responded; I pinched him. "Ow!" He jumped.
"You told me to." I smirked at him.
"I know, but that frickin' hurt!" He exclaimed.
"Whimp." I poked him in the ribs, gently.
"Shut up!" His manliness was insulted.
"Yes you are," I kissed his cheek, "sometimes."
"Am not!" He pouted.
"Are to." I whispered in his ear. Ace still pouted. I swear he was like a three year-old sometimes. A cute three year-old. "I'm still raining on your parade."
"Yes, you are."
"Does," I placed a kiss on his neck, "that make you feel any better?" I asked.
"A little." He gave me a tiny smile.
"Good." I said as Ace cuddled with me.
