Yep, here's another Vocaloid-song inspired story~! Whoever can guess the songs referenced before reading my author's note at the bottom gets a cookie!
Hugging herself tightly, a lone girl stared out her window. A bright lamp on the dresser lit up the little room, despite the fact that it was already long after midnight. She knew that she should be asleep, but she just couldn't. She shuddered, recalling her horrifying nightmare in which a brunette girl had been sawing off both her arms.
Her head whipped around to face the door, where the voice had come from. Standing in the doorway was what looked like a teenage blonde boy. He wore unusual clothes and carried a white cane.
"W-Who are you? How did you get in my bedroom?" She stammered.
Instead of replying, he walked over and cupped a hand under her chin. "Did you have a nightmare?"
Her eyes widened. "How did you-"
He smiled, showing perfectly white teeth. "Shall I cast a spell you on, my lady?"
"A-A spell?" She asked fearfully.
He removed his hand from her chin. "Let's make a contract. I'll eat your dreams-"
"Eat my dreams?"
"Yes. I am a dream eater. Anyways, I will eat your dreams. No more nightmares. However, I must ask your permission each time." He held up his pinky finger, then continued, "Link your pinky with me, and then the contract will be sealed."
The girl hesitated for a moment, then slowly lifted her pinky and linked it with his. She felt a surge of energy course through her body. Her eyelids suddenly felt strangely heavy, and she fell forward, collapsing into the boy's shoulder.
The dream eater smiled. Scooping her up, he carried her over to the bed and laid her down. Pulling out a bowl, he tilted her head so that her ear was facing the bowl. What looked like black stars fell into the bowl. When the last star had fallen, he tilted her head to a more comfortable position.
Munching away at the black stars, he sat on the edge of her bed. A dark grin crossed his face and he looked down at the girl.
"Oh, my dear lady, if only you knew the full extent of what you've gotten yourself into."
When the girl woke up the next morning, the boy was gone. Rubbing her eyes with a hand, she tried to recall the nightmare from last night. Frowning, she scratched her head. Or, at least, she was certain that she'd had one. She couldn't remember it at all.
Had that strange boy really visited?
Before she could think any farther, her mother shouted up the stairs, "Bella! It's time to get ready for school!"
Fully awake now, Bella quickly began to get dressed, the strange visit from last night shoved to the back of her head completely.
Bella looked at the clock. It was one o'clock in the morning. She paced her room quietly, the lamp switched on again. She'd had another nightmare. This time she had been a queen in Wonderland. Everything was going perfectly when suddenly she began to rot before her own eyes, forced to rule her country as their rotting corpse of a queen.
Why did she feel that this was an omen for something to come?
"My lady, did you have another nightmare?"
She turned to the window this time. Sure enough, the boy was there again, sitting on the windowsill. His arms were crossed over his chest, a slight smirk on his face.
She nodded. Smiling, he dropped from her window and into her room and quietly walked across the floor towards her.
"How did you know?" Bella asked.
He caressed her cheek softly. "My dear lady, we made a contract. I eat your dreams, you get your beauty sleep. Now, shall I relieve you of this one?" She nodded again..
With a wide grin, he snapped his fingers, and Bella toppled into him, fast asleep. Carrying her over to the bed and laying her down, he got to work.
"Oh, my lady, if only you knew what was coming."
The process continued. Bella would have a bad dream, she'd wake up and the boy would be there. He would make her fall asleep, and by morning her nightmare would've gone.
One night, Bella waited in her room, sitting on the bed.
"What is it, my lady? I do not sense a nightmare." He was standing in the doorway again, that same smirk still on his lips.
"I was wondering..."
"You eat dreams, correct?"
He nodded, and Bella continued, "Are you able to give people dreams as well?"
The boy's eyebrows lifted in amused surprise as he replied, "Yes, I can."
Bella looked at the ground. "Could you, perhaps, give me some good dreams?"
The boy crossed her floor and sat next to her. "Yes, I can, but it will require another contract. I will give you good dreams, but you must allow me more freedom when it comes to eating your dreams. I must be allowed to do so whenever I wish."
Bella considered it, then answered, "Okay."
She held up her pinky, but the boy grabbed her hand and gently rested it back on the bed. "This contract is not sealed by a pinky. It is a much stronger contract," he explained.
"Then what is it sealed by?"
He smiled and cupped her chin with his hand. "A kiss, my lady."
Before she could react, his lips pressed to hers. A surge of energy coursed through her again, but it seemed much stronger than the previous ones. She fell asleep as usual, collapsing into his lap.
The dream eater smiled again. Taking off his hat, he pulled out five white stars, dropping each one into her ear.
"I will not eat your dreams tonight, my lady. But starting tomorrow, you will slowly start to realize your mistake."
Weeks passed since Bella's new contract with the dream eater. When she woke up each morning, she would wake from a wonderful dream. She always felt like she'd had a nightmare before it, but she couldn't remember it. All was good.
Slowly, however, things started to fall apart.
One night, Bella sat awake in her room. Her eyes were wide and fearful. She waited for the blonde dream eater to appear.
"Are you awake, my lady?"
She turned and stared at him with a scared look on her face. "I want out of this, dream eater. I want my real dreams. You give me good dreams, but they aren't my dreams. I don't care if I have to continue dealing with nightmares. I just want out!"
He smirked again, but the smirk wasn't kind and gentle as usual. Instead, it was dark and controlling. "I'm afraid that cannot be done, my dear lady."
"W-What do you mean?"
The dream eater turned from her and paced her room. "You signed a contract, my lady. I give you good dreams, and I will eat your dreams to my heart's content."
"I want to break it! I want to end the contract!"
The blonde turned and quickly crossed the room to her, leaving barely any space between them. Her eyes widened fearfully. "P-Please," she said, "let me have my dreams back..."
He grinned darkly. "I can't. The contract is binding. It's a bottomless paradise, my lady." Gently stroking her cheek, he continued, "A vivid dream glows in your eyes, my lady. I will have it."
His grin broadened, turning into an evil expression. "Shall I show you how I do my work?"
Without giving her time to protest, he whipped out a bowl and tilted her head so that her ear faced downwards. Bella felt something slide out of her ear.
After some time, he released her head. Turning to look at him, she saw that the bowl was filled with a sea of black and white stars.
"These are your dreams, my lady," he replied, popping a few into his mouth, "The black ones are the nightmares, the white ones are the good dreams."
She stared at him, shock and horror written all over her face. "Those are my dreams?"
He grinned widely and replied, "Yes, but not just that. Have you ever had a dream where someone you know is in it, or it mirrors something that happened to you?"
She stared at him blankly. He laughed.
"Oh, I forgot. You can no longer remember your dreams."
The dark grin was back on his face. "Well, you won't be able to remember much of anything very soon. You see, these aren't just your dreams, my lady. They're your memories as well."
Bella's eyes widened, complete horror eclipsing her face. Frantically, she tried to recall things from her past, to prove him false. He just continued smiling as he watched her eyes dart around in confusion. She couldn't remember anything. Not a single event.
"I left you with some memories," he said, munching away at the dreams and memories contained in the bowl, "because I'm generous." She looked up at him, but something didn't seem right. Something about her vision was...off...
"You monster! Undo whatever you've done! Please!"
Finishing off the stars, he stood up and grinned. "I can't. You chose this."
Standing up and looking around her room, Bella finally realized what was wrong with her vision. There was no color. Nothing. Just black, white, and gray.
"What did you do to me?" She shrieked, tears pouring from her eyes. She dropped to the ground, sobbing uncontrollably. The dream eater laughed at her shaking, helpless form.
"Welcome to this monochrome world."
When her parents finally rushed into their daughter's room, the dream eater was gone. All they found was their daughter, screaming and crying. Her irises were no longer a bright green, just a dull shade of gray.
A young girl sat at her window, running her fingers through light brown hair. She'd had an awful nightmare. She had been playing a game with some orphan children, and when she'd lost they'd sliced her head off.
"Ah, my lady. Have you had a nightmare?"
The girl turned to the door. Standing there was a blonde, teenage boy, dressed in strange clothes and carrying a white cane. She nodded hesitantly. "Who are you?"
"I am the dream eater, my lady."

A/N: Personally I think this one sucks. =w= It's kinda unclear if you haven't heard Monochrome Dream Eater but I had fun writing it! This story was hard to flow along because the song leaves a lot to the imagination...but then again look up! ^.^ I think Monochrome Dream Eater is one of Len's best songs, along with Servant of Evil and Virgin Suicides. :]
