This Little Human Life

There is no gift through time or space

More precious than a life

It can be given freely

Or stolen with a knife

No matter how hard a man can try

He cannot put a price

On this thing we take for granted

This little human life

Out from the mothers womb we come

A treasure to her eyes

Our existence means the world to her

Despite our ceaseless cries

Our life means little when we are young

Except for cuts and scrapes

We have not faced true danger yet

Like killings death or rapes

Then when the time has finally come

For boys to become men

They find something they value more

Than the life they're living in

When he finds the one for him

His hearts as light as air

For his life has found new meaning

Its one he'd gladly share

But sometimes fate has sadder plans

there in the alleys cold

And upon that cold and rainy night

The gunman's hand was bold

His love lay there upon the ground

Her eyes wide with fright

The masked mans gun aimed at her

Beneath the flick'ring light

The boy turned man lay on the ground

Not strong enough to beat

This man, hell-bent to steal the life

Now laying at his feet

He watched the madman raise his gun

To shoot his crying wife

And then the boy did something great

He gave the girl his Life

The rain ran red and pooled about

The boy maintained his feet

He stared into the gunman's eyes

For his spirit could not be beat

He knew the shot went through his chest

His wound could not be healed

His life was totally given up

To be that human shield

The gunman stopped and stared at him

With a question on his face

As he watched him fall-for love

He was willing to take her place

No matter how hard a man can try

He cannot put a price

On this thing we take for granted

This little human life
