"You, my dear, are pregnant, are you not?" The elderly lady asked as she smiled at the client that entered her shop. The elderly lady was a well known and respected fortune teller, fondly referred to as as Lady Fortune. Lady Fortune smiled up at her regular client, wondering what the woman wanted to know today? The woman usually frequented two or three times a week, and never two days in a row. This of course left Lady Fortune wondering why she'd returned after visiting the day before.
The woman seemed shocked but smiled gently. She was a very superstitious woman, just like her husband, and that was the reason she was there. There was a great deal that they wanted to know before they made plans for the future.
"You always seem to have an idea of what I'm here for," The woman smiled once more at Lady Fortune. "Today, I'm here to find the fortune of my child." This lead to a very general fortune, one that covered the offspring's gender/quantity, relationships, health, basic future, and a glimpse at their personality.
"Very well, I'll get started, shall I?" Lady Fortune asked as she pulled out her pouch that contained the asteroid bits she used to make fortunes based off the stars. She used multiple types of fortune telling methods, which one she used depended on her client. After her pouch was open and placed on the table she pulled out a small hand carved maple wood bowl with deep set rings in the bottom.
Lady Fortune nodded once at her client, and the woman reached into the bag with her left hand and grabbed a small handful of the asteroid bits. She then pulled her hand back and clasped her hands together and rested them on her breastbone for a moment before letting her hands hover over the bowl for a moment. The asteroid bits made a light tinkling noise as they bounced around inside the bowl before setting into the deep groves in the bottom of the bowl.
Lady Fortune then pulled the bowl closer to see the lay out of the bits in the bottom of the bowl, but she never once touched the bits. She took a minute to interpret what the asteroid bits were saying to her about the future of the young still growing in the woman's womb. She sat back and studied the woman in front of her for a moment. She sighed and finally did what she had to.
"You're having twins. If you have a female before a male, they will be a curse to the family. Their lives, no matter what gender, will be filled with loss, confusion, wandering, and violence."
The first fact jumped out at Lady Fortune, her client was having twins. This was shown in the grouping of two small bits with shiny black obsidian inset in them sitting in the center ring of the bowl. She was unable to clarify the genders of the two because it would be color that would reveal that information, but it was obsidian a reference to number, nothing else.
In the second ring there was a small red stone that had been dislodged from it's place, nestled carefully in rock. Sitting next to the red stone was the rock it had dislodged from. The twin's would be a danger to family and loved ones. Two other stones on the other side of the bowl caught her eye. First a light pink stone set next to a ghostly blue green stone that Lady fortune rarely saw, then beside that stone was a dark blue sapphire. The twins would only be a danger if a girl was born before a boy. She studied the red stone for a moment and realized their was gray mixed in, not danger, a curse.
There was nothing in the third ring, she had no information on the health of the twins. The fourth ring showed that both of their futures were filled with nothing but confusion, loss, violence, and wandering. This was shone to her by four stones spaced evenly in the fourth ring, a misty yellow signified the confusion, a red mixed with black to represent the violence. A aching light blue for the loss, and a cloudy clear stone showed the wandering.
The fifth ring that would have told her of the the personality of the children was also empty of stones, which didn't surprise her. After all, when she thought about it, whenever it was an unknown gender, or multiple children, she never got information on their personality.
