Hello FP. Today, I was sent this marvelous little writing prompt by a friend of mine on Twitter, and it really did manage to inspire me to pick the pen up again. First, let me explain how it works.
The first step is to pick up to 10/no fewer than 5 words from this list (Google search "Literacy Lane Descriptive Words". Choose any words you desire.
Once you've done that, choose your favorite word out of however many you chose to begin with.
Here's where it gets fun: you have to write a short poem (any kind; free verse, haiku, etc) - no longer than 6 lines (4 preferred) - about the first person that comes to mind when you see that word. Now, there are some rules. For one, you cannot use the word in your poem. You can use its synonym(s), but not the word itself. Second, you can't include the name of the person in any part of the poem. Lastly, the poem does not have to be about the word/its theme at all. It's simply about the person the word reminds you of - their personality, a story about you and them, anything goes.
Here are my results - I only chose 5. To my friends - see if you can guess who's who!
Word 1 - Imaginative
Silent and mysterious
Always seeking to challenge me
To a game I'll never win.
Word 2 - Determined
Short, sweet and to the point
Sometimes as sharp as a razor's edge
But isn't a realist just what we need
In a negative world of blind positivity?
Word 3 - Loyal
Strong through even his darkest days
Stands straight and tall, head held high
A storm might be raging inside his heart
But only those eyes could tell.
Word 4 - Spontaneous
A neon spark, growing up too fast
Speaking through buzzes and whirs
Creative, yet lacking individuality
You still have so much to learn.
Word 5 - Humble
Afflicted both mentally and physically
Hoping to find an escape
He searched for a light among darkness and found it
And now, he brightens my world.
