Policies Against The Indoctrination of Children Through Religion and Abuse In Schools
I feel that many schools, mainly primary schools, are awful when it comes to fairness and logic. Children are sometimes punished over nothing and forced to believe in things that may not be real. The rules and regulations should be changed and go somewhere along these lines. Here I will give the ideas for polices and explain them a little bit further in italics/ the paragraphs below the bullet points.
There is no need for a person to belong to a religion for them to have morals. There is a very violent and evil side to religion therefore it should not be forced upon children. To force religion and beliefs upon children is child abuse therefore should be punished when used.
Forcing religion upon children and teaching them the so called 'facts' that come from religion is known as Indoctrination and sometimes child abuse.
There must not be any religion based schools, they must all be neutral that teach the children all of a possibilities and all of the paths they could take, and not force religion upon them.
Some student do not have a choice when it comes to choosing schools. Many parents send children to schools that are based on religion possibly because they will end up with higher grades, but have no idea of the other things their children will leave the school with. Memories of abuse and teachers forcing religion upon them and even taking religion too seriously and wanting to do some reckless thing that happens in a holy book like the Bible.
Any adult or teacher in the schools who forces a student to believe in a religious concept or perform any religious practice must be suspended. Also, any adult who discriminates against a child for believing in a religion or forbids them from practicing a religious action should also be suspended.
Because it is classed as child abuse it should be punished as if the offender has physically or verbally abused the child.
Morals should be taught in school, not through religion but through logic and reason. Everything a human does is not because of a God or Satan but because of genetic make up and how they we were brought up by parents. No body should be punished for being different or having different ideas.
There are some morals in religion but also some very brutal and immoral when the teachings of holy books are taken seriously. Therefore, children must be taught morals based on fact. For example, do not murder. The reason would not be because it is against God's word but because of the horrible effects on the victim and their family and teach the children about the 'ripple effect' of wrong doings, instead of telling them it is against the Bible.
Everyone must be taught that they need to work to destroy evil and discrimination. Bullying, abuse, unnecessary violence and other unforgivable acts must all be destroyed through the power of reason and punishment.
These acts are illegal however many people who perform these awful acts get away with it. Tell the children that it is bad to commit these crimes and teach them why with the ripple effect.
Religious practice should be allowed if it is being used positively and for the benefit of others and not just the person practicing it. If it is used to spread hate and evil then it must be terminated. No logic can come from pure faith used to indoctrinate others because of a possible afterlife that will only come if others are made to suffer.
There is much hate talk spread through religion, for example, Homophobic Christians. They use the word of God to discriminate against groups such as Homosexuals which is truly wrong. It must be stopped and children must be taught that no one is lower down in society because they are different.
Any child abuser, woman abuser or discriminator must be exposed for the evil that they are and shamed by the rest of society. No suffering through the hands of other can be hidden; it must all be found and stopped!
Looking more at the abuse side of this. A lot of abuse happens and it is overlooked by many because it is common when it should not be like this. The evil should be exposed and those who commit these crimes should be shamed so that they were learn the hard way that simple abuse can effect people in the long term.
Atheist based Humanism should be tied in with subjects like PSE and RE, this is to help children to know the facts, how to be moral and why people should not be punished for petty crimes such as thinking differently to others.
It is good to have logical thinking and not to jump to conclusion about happenings and people. If one does something wrong, we should not immediately jump onto them and find out why they broke the rules.
For example, if a child has punched another child then a teacher should NEVER just punish the offending child and people around them because of what they saw. They should question everyone involved because there is a good chance there is something even more sinister behind it, I.e. The child the offender had punched could have said something horrible about them or hit them first.
All of this would come from logical thinking and will help to ensure that not only are the right children are punished to the correct extent but that everything can be done to stop the event from happening again.
So, if you want to know a little more about me and why I came up with this, here is some information.
I live in Wales, UK. I went to a Christian school from the ages of 7-11 and hated the way the teachers forced the religion upon me. I go to secondary school now, and they let me think for myself which is good.
I'm an Atheist who is very serious about morality, fairness and the way schools treat their students. The purpose of this essay was not to make people change their beliefs but to perhaps think about the way they use them and think about how it is used in schools.
Please Review and tell me what you think about this essay, I have a feeling I may have made a mistake or was wrong about something, if so, please say. Thanks for reading.
